Does anyone have any ideas on the best and most affordable ice machine to purchase, I've checked with all the local supply stores in the area and no one offer's these for rent so I'm looking to buy one and dont really know where to start,,,,,

Do you have a Walgreens or CVS close to you? If so they can locate a place for you to buy one. Also, google Dr. Leonard. This is a medical supply place that you can order all sorts of medical supplies from and it's fairly cheap. Good Luck on finding an ice machine. You can also look on e-bay and Amazon.

try ebay that is where several folks got theirs. I had mine from the hospital my ins. paid for it.

Good luck

I am with you Pat!!!!
Ebay is a great place to start!! Let me know if you find one.
I have 2 and they are great.

I came home from the hospital with a Polar Care 300 and it works great. I found them for sale on the internet for a couple hundred $$, but you might find them used on EBay for much less as well.

Just be sure if you search for used machines that all the parts are there. They make a variety of cuffs for different body parts, so you want a knee cuff. The best option is to buy yourself a new knee cuff from the manufacturer once you know what brand of machine you will be getting. That way you know it is clean, sanitary and it will work well.

Good luck....these machines are the best thing going!

I bought my ice machine from a vendor at the hospital during my first surgery two years ago. The hospital used them on their TKR patients. Mine cost about $135.00 cash as they said my insurance wouldn't pay for it. As we were leaving the hospital the nurse told me to take the knee pad that was used in the hospital since they would throw it away as it is a one patient item. That gave me two knee pads. They still used the ice machine with my TKR this summer and again I was allowed to take the knee pad home. I certainly enjoyed how well the ice machine worked to help lessen the pain. I tell all my friends who are contemplating TKR to make sure they get an ice machine before coming home. Mine is a Donjoy Iceman. Here is a link to more information: broken link removed: https://www.donjoy.com/index.asp/fuseaction/products.detail/cat/12/id/101

Good for you, Thumper....now you are prepared. You will NOT regret this purchase!!

The brand name of mine is DeRoyal. I looked them up online and apparently they are usually around $200.

Speaking of ice machines, my knee is so stiff and sore after icing that I don't even want to do it anymore. I don't think I need it that much now anyway....but I don't know.
