Well, PT has been going pretty well. She seems really pleased with the way things are...she told me that I should go on some sort of "outing" this weekend.

After she left, my Mom had to go to WalMart so I went with her. I was just going to browse around up front (with my cane) and then sit on a bench. But I went from the cards to the clothes, to the furniture, to the hardware, and back through the furniture, the bedding and up front. Nearly an hour of walking. And it felt good! My muscles are tired, but I'm not hurting bad. Finally I see an improvement. And a pretty big one too!!!

:thmb:

Beth, HUGE milestone here!!! Wow! You're really starting to sound bionic. This went so well, I do think you need to plan something to do on the weekend that you will enjoy. It's such a mental booster to get out into the world again. Go for it!!!

Beth,
See it does get better when you are not even thinking about it.
Kinda like a watched pot never boils!!! LOL I can in my little minds
eye see you walking all around enjoying yourself. And then it hit you
and like it is such a ahhhhhhhhhhhhh moment.

:wow: WTG Beth, you must be feeling great after that achievement. Pleased to hear you are well on the mend. XX

I remember that! It felt sooo good pushing that kart through the store, my head held high! :thmb:

Now I'm back to using the mart-kart again!

beth---that is great news!!! I agree, you should plan something fun fo yourelf this weekend!

It's a few hours since we were at WalMart and I still feel good. My daughter is here (she hasn't seen me for a week) and she said she can tell the difference too.
It really was alot of fun really. We might go to Target this afternoon, but I won't push it quite as hard as I did this morning.

Thanks for all your encouragement!

That's good to hear! That whole "tired but not sore" feeling is fantastic, isn't it? :D

Don't get discouraged if you feel exhausted tomorrow (or is that just me, after a big day of doing and moving?).

Hey beth I knew you would make it. Im proud of you im glad you are doing so well.........Keep up the good work.......Gotta love Walmart.............lol........)

The day after WalMart I went with my daughter to Target, but this time decided to ride the electric scooter. I'm glad I did. When we left there, we went to a thrift shop looking for a small bookcase and I walked in there for a little bit. By Sunday evening, I was feeling the effects of the long walk on Saturday. Calf muscle sore, thigh muscle sore. Calf on my operated leg is rather swollen....

I did just what my physical therapist said not to do: I overdid it! But I don't think there is any permanent damage, just soreness. So I've been keeping ice on it, keeping it elevated, and taking my pills, including the anti-inflammatory pills. I have used my walker more too instead of my cane, but I don't regret any of the walking!

It was a good weekend! My mother is taking a nap right now, but after she gets up we are going to go for a ride just around town. that's good, but also bad. She is almost 80 years old, and isn't the best driver. Steps on the brakes too hard, wanders in the other lane, almost runs off the road, etc. So it's kinda stressful for me. :pnc: We'll just stay in town though..

Beth, you are doing all the right things following an overly active day or two. Pretty soon, you'll be pushing like that again...and again. And one day, you'll just DO it! You're doin' great!!!

Be sure you and your mom have seatbelts fastened securely!! Sounds like you're going on a roller coaster ride!

Yeah, the ride was scary as usual. She was driving along, looking at plants at a nursery, and she said "those are the ones I want to buy." I didn't look, and she said, "you didn't even look at them!" I said "That's because SOMEONE needs to be watching the road." I always put the visor down so that I have a mirror to look behind us at all times. She has a habit of just stopping in the middle of the road if she sees a cat or a pretty tree, or some sort of lawn decoration. I just know we are going to get rear-ended because of that someday. So I keep my eye on the rearview mirror when she is doing that. God Bless her.....She says she drives better when she is alone in the car, and I tend to believe that. She likes to talk too much.

I've been icing alot today, we went out for the ride, and got a burger. I've been doing my exercises.......I think I'm just now learning about the "hurts so good" thing. It hurts, but after the stretches, then my muscles feel so much better and not so tight.......

I think it is my husband that occasionally likes to point out some mountain feature . I always say of course I didn't look i had to watch the road.

Beth I'm just popping in after being away for awhile and you sound great! We all overdo it at first -- and keep overdoing it from time to time. Yes the muscles get tired and sometimes you get some swelling but the next time it won't be overdoing -- the same thing will be just "doing". I remember going for a hilly walk around a lake community when I was maybe 2 months out and telling my husband I only wanted to do 2 miles or less and it turned out to be more than 3 miles. I was really tired (both legs) and it took a couple of days to fully recover but that's all -- no damage and a quiet sense of "I can do anything now". Of course I couldn't but you need a lot of confidence building in the first few months. So just keep doing what feels OK and if you're tired -- take it easy the next day. And you'll just keep getting stronger!
