Hi all you fellow THRers...I hope today is a good one for you all.

I am needing some info about PT treatments. I know what E-Stim is...those little patches with electric impulses....but what is A-Stim? I know there is kind of therapy, but what is the difference? This is what a friend of mine had when her knees hurt after her THR. It seems that my local PT does not do it and my OS hadn't heard of it before. I might have to travel 100 miles to get it done, but will do so if it would help my hurting knees after my THR. I am limping more now than I did before, but the hip is doing fine...but that knee never hurt until after surgery.

Thanks for the info.

I Googled both those but got nothing pertinent to this.

What would be the objective of using one? Building muscles or pain relief? Or both?

Re: I need some info on therapy~ I spellled it wrong

The reason you couldn't find this therapy was because I spelled wrong. It is ASTYM and if you google it, you can find out more about it.
It seems to be a deep muscle therapy and breaks down scar tissue. I have so much pain on the side of my leg below the knee that I was told perhaps there is scar tissue built up from limping for so long. I am scheduled to start on Monday and certainly hope it will give me some relief. Hip is doing great..but knees aren't.

Wow! sounds great! Let us know how you get on.

I found this site broken link removed: https://www.gosportstherapy.com/astym.htm

Phoggie....what great news!!! I'll keep my fingers crossed and say a prayer that this treatment gives you some relief. In the meantime, we can all learn about what the therapy involves. The education we get from this site is really amazing!

I am pretty sure this is one of the treatments my PT tried before we had a diagnosis on my knee and back pain. Originally we thought my knee was just inflammation problems and had no idea I was bone-on-bone and had a herniated disk in my back causing nerve damage. During those weeks before we knew what was wrong we tried EVERYTHING to try and find some relief for me.

So... this didn't "cure" my knee or back (surgery was my only option) but I can sure see the possibility it could help in other cases. Good luck!
