Today I had my 4 week post op appt with the OS. After my weekend to St. Louis, I am feeling SO energized!!! Dr. told me to start walking, walking, walking! (which is what I did on my trip to SL). You have to know that in the last five years I have become so sedentary because of this knee that I have easily gained 40 lbs and was so totally out of shape! So, I'm feeling like I have a chance to start over again (I'm 54 yrs YOUNG).

I have taken everything the PTs have said and did the max. So much more pain than I ever thought this would be. My ROM is not any where near where it should be yet ... 88/8.

Now that a have the doctor's blessing to walk, I went out in the water (we live on a lake) and walked for about 20 minutes in waist deep water. Came in and rested then looked at all the work my husband has been keeping up with outside our house and decided to give the lawn a try. I did the front lawn which took me about an hour and a half, but boy did that feel good to finally help around here. My husband wasn't happy about it, but I told him the doctor said I could!

I start aqua-therapy on Monday - I've had PT there before and the water is heavenly! 90 degrees! I'm still doing all my at home PT hoping to get this ROM better.

My cane arrived today from St. Louis (I forgot it at the hotel), but I haven't used it since last weekend and I don't walk with a limp anymore!!! If I get lazy I do out of habit though.

I am so excited, the pain is still there, but it's a different pain and I know it's getting better everyday!!!

If I can do it, you guys can because I truly was a wus and changed my attitude to... an Attitude of Gratitude... I've been given a second chance to lead a healthy lifestyle!

Laurie!
Congratulations!
You sound phenomenal! Inspiring! Your progress is awesome and makes my return to work 4 weeks after my surgery not even an issue!!!!! Keep up all the positive!

Thanks Marianne!

I was lucky enough to take 5 weeks off work and now the next two weeks I am taking as vacation time. I think if I had gone back to work at two weeks (to a desk job) like the doctor thought, I would not be where I am now. I religiously do my PT 3 times a day (plus other stuff now). But even doing that, I don't think I could have gone back at 2 or 3 weeks post op. My body needed that time to rehab.

So any of you that can take the time off for a good length - DO IT! You owe it to yourself to get your knee totally back. I'm not there yet, but I can sure see the end of the tunnel... Just in time for a beautiful rest of the summer!

I guess I didn't mention it in my first post, but God certainly played a big part in my recovery. When I would do my exercises, I always had to ask for help with the hard ones. Somehow, He helped me get thru those ones I wanted to pass up!

Unbelievable! Mowing? No cane? How come I go the slow moving progress. I guess I'm on a different plan. But I'm very, glad for you. I am 7 weeks. My big success story is going up stairs. At my job we have a large, straight up, very steep flight. I can do those normally with out to much pain. Just the stiffness pain. It is fun to see progress in areas that mean so much to us.

It gets even better. I've noticed that getting in and out of the car is borderline effortless. And my walking pace has become quite brisk. Burn baby burn (calories). Don't worry about the different levels of recovery. We all recover at different rates, no contests. Kinda like potty training. You will not have a 10 year old still in diapers, promise!

SO inspiring!!! Wow, how exciting! Keep it up, and keep us updated!

Good luck,
Hess

Oh,that is just so inspiring! I am in week 2 of btkr, and am still in the "why in the heck did I do this?" stage. I hope by next week my question will be answered. Am looking sooo forward to aqua therapy in another couple of weeks!
