I Made It! University Hospitals in Cleveland is great! Dr Matthew Kray is the man!
I was discharged on Friday (tuesday surgery). Am at home and fel likie I am doing great. Dr wants me to really keep weight bearing minimal for 6-8 weks so bone bonds with device and does not get loose (non-cemented for possible revision later) I am only 52.

Really excited about rehab but not diging the constipation at all. Any suggestions? Or is laxative required in most cases? I've been on stool softener since Tuesday but it is not causing me to have any action. Just tried a dose of MetaLAX?

Glad to be back!!!!!

Re: 24 hours to go for THR

Good for you Vman. I'm glad to hear everything went well. I will get my uncemented hip one month from today so I'm interested in your progress.

Sorry I can't help with the constipation. I'm probably the only one on this forum that doesn't have that problem. Others will come around with suggestions but I do know they do not recommend laxatives.

Welcome V man! Prunes! Plain, stewed,, Juice,,,whatever!
Bran.......licorice! Steamed veggies....you get the idea! Just don't.squeeze!!! (:)0)

That's terrific, Crede. Don't even think about a revision at this stage - with any luck you could be over 80 before you have to confront that!

As for the bowel problem, what ever you do, don't take laxatives. I have a post about that issue in the Information Centre Constipation and stool softeners

Crede congrats. Seems like everything went well for you. it just gets better and better now. After the constipation issue anyway. you are not alone there.

Vman.....did you get that constipation thing under control??? Do be sure you're taking ENOUGH stool softeners each day. Sometimes it takes more than just one or two gelcaps. Read the package instructions and don't be afraid to take the maximum dosage for as long as you need them. They are NOT a potential problem like laxatives would be taken long term.

Also, if you aren't a fan of prunes or prune juice, fresh plums work too. Or you can purchase some of the flavored (orange or lemon) dried prunes. They are really good. Just don't wolf down a whole package all at once or you might need to move your television to the bathroom!

Congrats vman, glad all is going well with you. I am sitting on the sidelines for now, my date is january 13th, so your posts are quite interesting for me. Any of your experiences will be added to the wealth of information that i have already read at this wonderful site.
