I was taking my Scottie out for her afternoon walk when suddenly we got in each other's way. She fell off her stair ramp, and I tripped over her and landed on my knees on the ramp (carpeted, thank you), which promptly broke. The ramp, not my knees. I sat there for a few minutes taking stock. Piper (the dog) is fine. And I did discover I can kneel.

No real pain, because I didn't land square on my knees, more like on the front of the calfs of my legs. I managed to lift myself onto the steps so I could get up. I can walk and right now I am sitting on my recliner with bags of ice on both knees. Suspect I will have aches by tomorrow morning.

I leave Saturday to drive to Illinois, a two-day car trip. I will be with someone else so we can share the driving. Timing is everything. But I am grateful I didn't break anything...like a hip.:shk:

Hi Marennorge , I am so sorry you fell. I cant believe that. I think alot of people trip over their dogs.lol...We care so much for them. I think you might be sore tomorrow but I think icing today will probably help just be careful. Im glad you are sharing the drive with someone but I would still bring a lil ice pack just in case . I dont go anywhere without it...Take care....And be careful....!!!!!!!!!!

So sorry you fell. You are doing the right thing. Ice and elevate. If you still have your torture hose might be a good thought for the trip even support hose.

Thank heavens your BOTH ok, Maren! How frightening! If you are not asleep yet, I'd take Tylenol PM or something similar to help with pain and sleep! Expect to be sore in the morning and start your day with ice! Take it EASY!!!

I am a rtkr from last July (08) as well. I wiped out carrying my new puppy down the back deck stairs in May (he was like 40 pounds already malamute) OWIE landed hard on the left knee and hard enough on the right. Lots of black and blues. Totalled out again in early June... tripped over new pavers and landed on the ground again. That time I was bruised on my right leg from the lowest part of my ankle up to mid calf. Very pretty in capris. Used LOTS of ice and took a ton of ibuprofen again. All seems ok Soft tissue damage like the bruising takes for ever to feel better but it is amazing what these new joints can withstand.

Hang in there. I am back to painting and all the other stuff again. Rest, Ice and Elevate when possible!

Marianne

Hi Maren I hope you are doing well this morning and not to sore. Take care and keep us posted...Ice ice ice.

Geez, I'm glad you're all right.

That's my big fear right now, falling. I've had a couple scares (the German Shepherd bumping into the back of my leg, a stumble here or there). I tell the kids that I'd hate to hurt myself all over again or ruin my new knee before I had a chance to really use it!

Well, was a seminal moment for sure! Glad you handled it ok. I'm anxiously waiting for my 'moment' - with two cats and awkward door risers it's bound to happen sooner or later ....

We're puppysitting!!!Our daughter Lyndsey's teacup poodle Edie weighs 3 lbs! My other 2 poodies are 8lbs and 6lbs! I am soooo scared of tripping over her and maming HER!! I must look ridiculous trying keep out of HER way sometimes!!:hehe:
:thmb:

I'm doing fine today. I have been using ice on and off all day. My left knee doesn't hurt at all, but I have level 3 muscular pain in the right one. I've been taking ibuprofen as well. Walking is no problem. I fixed the stair ramp this afternoon so I wouldn't have to deal with carrying Piper up and down the 3 steps. She has arthritis in her hind legs and cataracts in both eyes so sometimes she walks "crooked." And I think that's why she "walked" off the ramp yesterday. We are a pair. Thanks to everyone for your concern and good wishes.
