I carry a lot of weight in the front of my thigh and knee. I'm worried that I won't heal well since the surface is so lumpy!

I have fat knees. The one that had the replacement particularly lumpy. You have to hunt for the scar.

The scars from the 1971 surgery are much more dramatic even today . At that time the knee was not fat.

Your incision will heal OK. There are lots of us here who have fat legs (me included!) and healing hasn't been a problem for almost all of us. Your incision will be closed and stitched in layers. It's not just the skin that is stitched, clipped, or glued together. This article explains how it's done:

I have fat knees/thighs and have healed well without problems. Don't worry.

Well you know, the miracle of life is that they just do!
