I had Bilateral Surgery Dec. 3rd. I am not sure if I am pleased or not. I seem to have a huge amount of muscle pain. I use a CPM twice aday for 2 hours each leg. That's 8 hours a day total. I added more involved exercises yesterday with a PT. After the session the knees swelled and I was miserable. The same occured today. Is this normal? Also, I break out with hot flashes throughout the day. Is this a side effect of the pain meds? ANY IDEAS?

Gosh, nopurse - it's awful early to be having such thoughts about your new knees. Only 10 days!!! A few years ago you'd still have been in hospital!

Sounds to me like you are doing a tad too much and could afford to take it a bit easier for a week or so yet. I don't mean stop, just maybe ease up every third or fourth day. Give yourself a rest and a break, in other words. Plus don't forget, you'll be hitting those post-op blues as well.

And to answer your final question, yes some pain killers can very much cause hot flushes! I had an experience with that myself some years ago and got upset and tearful because I felt so lousy and the doctor seemed not to be taking me seriously about it. I also got a feeling of swollen glands in the neck. He ended up sending me to a gynaecologist about the hot flushes, an ENT surgeon about the neck glands and a psychiatrist about the 'depression'!! I underwent numerous tests and investigations until a colleague suggested I go see the occupational health doctor who immediately asked me if I had any back/neck problems and if so what meds was I on. So I changed to something else and the symptoms disappeared almost overnight!!

Any time! When you are feeling that you're over the actual op and had imagined yourself getting back to normal but you're not! THAT's when they hit!

That's not a good thought. :-)
DAY 11
I made it to 96 on the CPM today. Actual measured 94 and 92 by the PT of course she kept sliding my foot a little bit at a time until I couldn't go anymore.

I seemed a little better today with the exercises. Not as much swelling afterward.

Sorry about that - but if you ever get an attack of the miseries, at least you'll know what is happening and that it is only temporary!
