Ok, I'm coming up on week 2, which I know is early, but, it is just hitting me how long this stuff takes to heal from. I look at the little flyer with discharge instructions for joint repacement from my hospital's "joint replacement center" and it says "most of these instructions apply to the first 6-8 weeks after surgery." I'm ready to go! get back to life, drive, run errands, shop, cook, clean (yes I said clean!), work, church.... Ofcourse I was hardly doing any of those things prior to my surgery, but that's why I did this huge knee surgery thing. CABIN FEVER? I start going out for PT this week, so that should help. Well, any way, good morning all, think of me while you live your daily life. Jen

Aww- honey - I feels for ya!

[Bonesmart.org] I gotta do this for how long?!

Morning Jenn. I feel for you, I am only just back driving at 11 weeks, so I feel for you. I had some terrible cabin fever days. Luckily I have some terrific mates here and they ran me to physio appointments, took me out for lunch and coffee and ran errands too. It was especially bad when Kevin was away on business, no one to talk to in the evenings and weekends were the longest without him, especially in the eraly days.

Still only driving locally as I am still on Percs, so have to time it right.

Thank goodness for this website eh? Because my computer is upstairs, no laptop, I never even got on it and found you all for 3 or 4 weeks post op.

Hope you have a good day Jenn. Take gare. (((((((((((Hugs)))))))))) Sue

Jenn, this is a loooooooonnnnnnnnngggggggggg road. Some folks travel it faster than others, but to be on the safe side, start now to look at what you can do each week that you could not do the week before. Understand that there will be good days and bad days, but think in terms of weeks regarding your progress and months for recovery. Hang in and God bless you.

Just doin weekend stuff. My wife and I rode the bike this weekend and had folks over on Sunday...........glad to say 'just normal' stuff.

Never knew normal could be so good eh? Glad to haer you were able to get out on your bike.

I noticed our neighbours were tuning theirs up this weekend. The snow is beginning to melt at last, though we will possibly get more before the end of April, usually do just when we think it's over. It has been a long winter this year. Had some in Oct., that melted then it was back with a vengence in Novemebr and never left again!! Still maybe our lakes will fill up again, they have been down by four feet these past 5 years.

Jen
Going out for PT will help. It will give you something to get ready to do, get you out of the house, and make you glad to get back home to your comfy places. You will have new conversations with different people whom you will alternately love and hate.... new exercises to do at home. It is a good new step toward regaining that "normal" life you are going through all of this for. Not easy---- but it well help you get where you want to be. It will make you hurt in old and new places---- but will help in the long run--- I swear! Take it easy and be kind to yourself!

Hang in there, Jen. Once you start getting out for PT, you'll start getting out for other things. It will tire you out, so expect that. Don't go too far in Wal-Mart... LOL... and get stuck in the back of the store totally exhausted! Take your meds when you need to. It gets better, but it will be subtle. You'll just notice all of a sudden that things have improved and you won't recall when exactly, just that you're doing better and becoming more normal. For some of us, that will never come as we weren't normal to begin with, but at least I'm getting closer!! Love you! Skeet

skeet, yes, for all my whining this am, I do realize how i feel generally better. Transfers , walking, getting in & out of chairs. It is all better than last week or even 2 days ago. I even walk some without the cane. Though i carry it with me in case I need it to balance.

When I know I have to walk a lot, I throw the cane in the car just in case. I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it! You sound like you're doing fantastic, just a bit of cabin fever. I still get it. Partly because we live in a town of less than 100 with only a small market and a farmers' restaurant that opens for breakfast only M-Sa. so the farmers have a place to congregate. So, I have to drive 10 miles or more for any excitement.

Well, my hubby was gone huntin' all weekend and I had a house full of teenagers. That was somewhat excitin'. I'm close to the gun club, maybe I'll invite all my shotgun buddies over for some good fixin's... just sayin'

Even in this small town where we all know each other, when my 17 year old son takes my debit card to the market they make him show all sorts of ID before he can use it... like they don't know him and they can throw a rock and hit our house from there.

That's pretty funny, Skeet. I think the reason all of us are a little testy sometimes is the way this dang winter has just HUNG ON FOREVER!!! If Spring will finally break through, we all will be a lot happier. I just KNOW it!!!

Jen, it will seem like a long, long time for recovery. I had no idea it would take so long before I could do things that I wanted to. For me March was the perfect time to have my knee surgery because by the time I could get out and walk the weather was warmer. I was getting tired of sitting around watching DVD's and sitting at the pc but once I could walk nicely I was outta here! And Skeet, I don't know where you live but you're right...winter keeps hanging on, we are in the middle of a snowstorm with 4" of new stuff and it isn't done yet! Jen hang in there and keep thinking of warm days where you're out walking!
Mary

Hi Mary, you look new. To the forum at least. Your screen name says you've got a jump on many of us. aS YOU'VE PROBABLY READ, WE LOVE OTHERS EXPERIENCE. You're exactly right with the march timing. I was between 2 docs, the one I saw last year and the one everyone I new was seeing. Once i decided it was a go, I wanted to do it ASAP. I called the original doc and they were booking in may/june. oh, so no. I called the other place went for appt. on Feb. 5th and they booked me for March 18. From what i am told, people wait months to get in to see this guy. Divine intervention. I wanted to be out walking in my neighborhood by may, not starting rehab. now i can't wait to wear shortsb and show off my new scars.
