Hi Tracie - looks like you soon have a date then, that is really good news and then things will really be on the up for you. I am afraid I don't know why they can't use old scars, but there must some really good reason why not. I am sure Josephine will be able to tell you.

Just wanted to wish you well and fingers crossed you get a date soon.

Hi tracie Welcome I dont know whyt he wouldnt use the same scar, mine did on my knee. Maybe Jo or Jamie or others might know why...hummm good one....I hope you get your date reall soon.....We will all be here for ya.......Good Luck to ya !!!You will do just fine Sounds like you had other surgeries time to get it done once and for all.....

i would have to think it was placement. i have plenty of old scars and some that look like they filleted me. in the past when they have done reconstruction dependng on the anatomy they did go in old scars and just extended one 1 inch, but this time i have a whole new one. i have one on each leg that are anterior just like jean pockets then one direclty on each side about inches then my new one that kind of runs between both. lol. when i say positional i would think of the new scar as a good thing. the angle theygo in at has alot to do with where the muscle is getting cut. now i'm going to let jo correct me if i 'm wrong. lol good luck

It certainly is a question of placement. If your old scars are on the front or side of your hip, for instance, and he wants to do a posterior approach then he couldn't use the old scars. Perhaps you could give me an idea where your old scars are?

hi jo they are posterior 1 from surgical dislocation and the other from when i had slipped ephisis excuse the spelling lol xxx

Well, do you know which approach he intends to use? Anterior or posterior?

Just wishing you good luck, Tracie!!! When's your date! :)

hi judles not got my exact date yet they are saying end of sep/oct so not long x jo he is going for posterior again xxx

Still none the wiser! Where are your original scars? Are they posterior as well? Because if they are, I have no answer for you. It's a puzzlement.

However, having just noticed you are in the UK, would love to know which hospital you're going into. I'm nosy like that!

i know mine used a modified posterior so eventhough he started out posterior he ended up still cutting the lateral muscle. scar neither direct posterior or lateral.

im under guys mr marcus bankes do you know anything about him x

Don't know of him personally but his broken link removed: https://www.thelondonclinic.co.uk/consultants/bankes,_mr_marcus_j_k.aspx. He was a post-graduate on the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital training scheme (where most all of the best come from!) so his credentials tick a lot of boxes for me. He's also a hip resurfacing advocate and teaches a bit. From the looks of it, you've got yourself a good one!

Personally, I couldn't have care less where he did the incision....I already look like a railway line, so whats another track too add to the hip trophy....and I,m certainly not going to win the swimsuit model competition....I've got a "5 baby belly" In the end he used the scar from when I was 2 months old, and its really thin and neat, except for one little spot that took about 10 weeks to heal over. Why? who knows, but I kept it clean and dressed and it eventually recovered, a bit more of a scar left on that spot....but to be honest i don't even think about it....

Hmmm, I wouldn't mind some thinking time. i realised some time ago that the things I need in life all start with S.....sleep, simplicity, solitude, a social life, financial solvency, silence....

Sorry Jo, I'm going off on a philosophical tangent.....

Goodnight Judles, its almost midnight here, and this Kangaroo needs to nod off tucked up in cosey warm bed, complete with woollen underblanket and feather doona (its winter in Oz....although not too bad)

So good night
Rachel
