YO! Gang,

I did it! I did it! I got the wheel to go around and around on the bike. I started out just rocking back and forth and then it happen. The left knee gave up and let the petal go around. It was slow at first and then it became natural to petaled the bike. Kim my PT told me to slow down and not to over do it. Thank the good Lord and all you guys for given me the support I needed. I now see the light at the end of the tunnel and know it is down hill from here. It has be hell with this left knee but we have finally over come it. By ROM for my right is still 0 – 110 and my left has improved to 0 – 96.

God Bless,
Rick

Way to go Rick!!!!! Remember how great this feeling is. Keep the memory in your back pocket, and pull it out when you need to see how good it really can be! Best of luck, and keep with the positive attitude!

Way to go! That's a HUGE achievement!

I got on my bike today (recumbent exercise bike) just to rock the pedals too. I did make one rotation, much to my knee's distress, but I did it. Only once though. I'm fixing to go get back on it in a little bit here, you've encouraged me!

RickB,
Congrats! What a great feeling..... That rocking motion tends to get your muscle memory working again and low and behold around you go! Keep up the good work! Now your numbers will increase daily!
Best,
Crystal

Rick......CONGRATULATIONS..........
I know the feeling......it's new to me also..you feel like you have conquered the world...keep up the great work, will have to have cyberspace races with you soon....
Kimgrif......keep at it babe it will come sooner than you think...someone said that to me only last week, and it happened to me that day......Race on as soon as you get going?

love and hugs Pat xx

Dunno..
I never had mine measured as I never went to PT due to transport probs..
the doc never even did it at my 6 wk post op check..he just made me straighten then bend my knee and said.....thats good aint it? so I have no idea what ROM in degrees.
I just bought an exerfcise bike from hints on here, and after paddling back and forth for 2 days I did a full rotation backwards..the day after i tried again slowly letting my knee do its own thing and managed 5 rotations......
I started then pedalling backwards for a further 5-6 days increasing my time for 5-15 mins twice a day.
Then I noticed my bike was really hard to pedal backwards, and almost gave up, I found that the movement was easier forwards so I tried and low and behold....off I went..forwards......
I am now upto 15 mins twice a day I start paddling, then try backwards, but within one minute, can manage to go forwards and then off I go.
Not all days are same, sometimes it takes more or les time to get it moving but I just let my knee do as much as it wants plus that little bit extra every time...It's working for me...
Good luck....keep at it Schoust..you wil reap the benefits
Love and hugs Pat xx

Ralph,

I have been trying to get this left knee up to speed with the right for over a week now. I would safely say that I was able to get the bike around at 95 degree of ROM. When I left the hospital my RTKR was at 95 and my LTKR was at 70.

My ROM was 90 FINALLY on 09/16, but then I set myself backwards in a serious way because I had to go on a road trip to a funeral, 1300 miles round trip in 36 hours. Yeah...I've been paying for THAT! (My surgeon did okay the road trip with stipulations that I get out and walk every hour or so, but he kinda sorta didn't know how FAR the trip was...)

At any rate, PT on the 23rd was NOT fun, and we didn't even measure as I did lose ground, but working on the bike and walking stairs today, I feel as though I've made forward progress again. Mind you, I cannot get that pedal all the way around without serious duress, but I *can* get it there. Mostly, I rock the pedals as far as I can get them without going all the way around.
