I am at 5 weeks now! It seems like it has been an eternity, but at the same time it has flown by. I am getting along well, but not nearly quick enough for me! I know that it takes a lot of time, but I am finding myself getting a little frustrated!

I am having a little trouble with my walking. I tend to turn my foot out like a penguin!! Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what did you do? I'm getting a little discouraged. I hope it goes back to normal soon!

Thanks,
Hess

Do not get frustrated; just ride it out. I was having trouble walking too...my Pt told me to concetrate on striding correctly.

Remember, anything is "normal after this surgery. You just have to keep on keping on! At five weeks I was just beginning to use a cane (I had a BTKR) and things were still slow for me.

I had to walk over a set of "mini-hurdles" at PT---that helped me with my gait.

Hang in there...time and patience are your best friends.

Hess, at your stage of recovery, I used to go to the mall and "practice" walking. Controlled climate and lots of coffee.
My foot tended to turn out prior to surgery. It seems to have straightened post surgery.
Just keep up the work and it will all pay off in a couple of months.

At 12 weeks post-op I still tend to turn my foot on my surgical leg a bit. My non-professional theory is I spent many years with a crooked knee so I unconsciously keep trying to adjust/turn it the way I used to. Still working on that :)

Congrats Hess and keep at it...it DOES get better. Enjoy each little victory along the way.
