Finally saw the neurosurgeon. He said I have a neurenteric cyst on my spine. He said that as long as it stays the same size, he is not worried about it. If it starts growing, it will have to come out. The surgery is complicated and starts in the front under my jawline. (eeks)

Plus he said that he doesn't really know why I have such excruciating headaches, that the cyst is not causing them.

TODAY I was walking out to my car carrying some empty boxes and because they were blocking my view, I did not see the curb, tripped over it, landed mostly on my knees. My left knee is raw looking and my right knee (bad knee) is really swollen and stiff. This is the 2nd or 3rd time I've fallen in just a few months. I don't know what is wrong with me!!

But I hurt practically all over now.

Oh, Beth! Bless you heart - you are having a rough time of it.

Actually, let me put your mind at rest a bit about the neck surgery. I worked with a surgeon who used to do spinal fusions in the neck quite often. It sounds hairy, but the truth is that when you lay on your back and turn your head to one side, the spine is very close to the surface. There is also a handy triangular track through the groupd of muscles there so most of the approach is fairly simple. And when the wound is closed, it's not a huge one. Can't actually say much about the cyst removal part as that's neurosurgery and not an area I've worked in.

As for the falls, you really have got to start being careful about what you do. Take a little risk assessment when going to do something and decide what is safe and what isn't. Walking with a pile of boxes obscuring your view, for instance, wasn't very safe but I think you have figured that by now!

God bless and hope this
streak of bad luck ends for you right now!

Thanks, Josephine. I'm going to keep ice on my knee quite often this weekend, and I've taken quite a bit of ibuprofen already.

I know....I should be more careful. I just didn't think something that stupid would happen. I tell my mom the same thing though. She falls or almost falls when she does something "too fast." Like even turning around to do something. I need to take my own advice. Now my neck hurts, my head hurts, my foot hurts and both of my knees hurt. My other knee "the good one" is all skinned up and sore and bruised.

As for the neck--I don't know why he has to go through the front of my face under my jawline to gt to the cyst, but he's the doctor.

It just seems to never end.

Well, Beth - this'll make you laugh. A couple of weeks before I had my knee done, when I was still a bit poorly on my pins, I took a large, full watering can out to my conservatory to water the pot plants in there. Now my door into the conservatory is really the front door to the house and it's one of those dreadful modern UPVC efforts. In other words, it has a great big riser that takes all the fancy pins of the lock. I've often stumble on this before but this day, failing to look where my feet were and also failing to LIFT my feet :hehe:, I caught my foot on the riser and sprawled headlong, managing to half empty the watering can over me in the process! I didn't hurt myself - well, only my dignity! - but it took me a few minutes to get myself to my feet and getting upstairs to change into dry clothes wasn't that easy!

Now you may tell me I should take my own advice! :hehe:

Yes beth please be careful.........Ok Ill say it you BOTH need to take it easy....................... Jo Im sorry I kinda picuted you covered with water..and Im sorry ...just kidding.........Good things will come Beth.....I am happy though for the success you are having now..........keep posting ...Hope everyone has a great day !!!!!!!!!!!!! Kim

OK, it's the next day and i can hardly walk. I don't know if it's just because of the fall, which always hurts, or if I did some real damage. It hurts so bad sometimes I just have to cry

Hi Beth so sorry you are hurting. I would say it's probably because of the fall, Im sure you will have aches and pains. To put your mind as ease, Maybe call your OS, let him know what happened. I have heard on here though , It takes alot to be able to hurt the replacement. Take some aleeve as well that will take alot of the soreness out of there. Sure hope you feel better soon. Try not to worry...Kim

Texas,
I haven't had the knee replacement yet. I know some of my pain is just pulled muscles, etc. But it's really bad.

Thats right Im am sorry. Then you really should becareful, dont want anymore pain before the replacement. What are they going to do about your neck. Have they decidied? I read thru some threads and you have had a rough time. It's Gotta get better. Well atleast you know what the knee can with stand. See giving you a heads up lol. Rest.

Beth
Have you called your doctor? You really need to and maybe even go in and get an xray if you have not already done so. But for sure call you doctor. He may need to do something now!

Pat

Yep, Beth...I agree. You took a good fall and it would be a good idea to get things checked out. Then, my friend...be careful!!! We want you to stay safe until you can get that knee surgery!! Well....I want you safe afterwards too, but you know what I meant....

As far as my neck goes, I have a neurenteric cyst along my spine. It's not very big, and he said at this point he's not worried about it. He also said that the cyst is not what is giving me headaches. He doesn't know why. So he wants me to go to physical therapy. I guess I will and see if they can make it better. I have to have another MRI in 3 months. If the cyst has grown, then he wants to take it out. He described the surgery and it sounds awful

And for my knee.....yeah, I was thinking about seeing my doctor just in case I did hurt it more than it already was (chipped bone or something like that) It's so swollen and tight feeling. I've had ice on it alot since my fall on Friday. Still terribly. Think I'll have to use cane for awhile. It's hard for me to do that at work, because everyone is so cruel and will make fun of me. Maybe not cruel, but they like to make fun of everything.

Its easy for people to make fun of others when they have no earthly idea what it feels like. Use the cane if you need to, its there problem not yours. I sure hope the cyst doesnt grow. Please let us know what your Dr said. I hope that turns out to be nothing for your sake. Your right ice and take it easy. Sure hope you feel better soon......Kim

I have gotten a lot of fun out of carrying a cane. I like to carry it sometimes , even though I absolutely don't need it anymore and have to remind myself to use it instead of just carrying it like a club. I am thinking I will keep it around, just because I can justify it.

I wave it over my head and shout "out of my way, you young whippersnappers!" I push elevator buttons with it, pick stuff up with it, use it as a brace to rest my knee against while sitting.. and I have been known to suddenly reach out and snare the dog with it when he was zipping by on his way to mischief, thinking Master is crippled...

I made that one out of Casuarinas wood, and have now stained and applied tung oil to it. It's smooth, shiny and nice now. (the cane, I meant. Not the dog. He's not shiny.)

Yes, I have made several of them now. I like to mess around with wood projects. I have done canes and walking sticks.

I took the handle off a cheap Pakistani bamboo style and put it on a stout piece of Casurinas wood. Has some heft to it. Solid. I'll take a photo later today. It looks better with the tung oil on it.

Cute lil dog, I bet he follows you everywhere, just looks like he would, to cute. I love the cane doesnt look like a regular boring cane, (yes post pic). What time is it where you are.I went to the Bahamas before and would go back in a heart beat....I think you are close to the Bahamas right. Bet just as amazing.

The dog is a hoot. His name is Dooley. He's wet in that photo because he just came out of the ocean. He loves boats and swimming. And fishing. He likes to bite barracudas.

We are just south of the Bahamas. We are on East Coast time, same as Miami, NY, etc.

Too cute, Gringo. I'm thinkin' Mr. Dooley will figure out pretty soon how to be faster than the cane, though. He must have had a fish in sight in this photo, cuz he looks pretty intent.

Gringo I see you didnt get much sleep either or are you just not that big of a sleeper at all. So all in all you have a hunting dog but in the ooean. lol Sorry beth it was in the am when we started talking we will move, didnt mean to take up your thread I guess it was to early in the am to realize.
