THR I am the Storm

@danelady, I don't want to pressure or guilt you into doing something you're not ready to do yet, like reconnect. But I worry about you a lot, especially at night.

Maybe just send us a thumbs up so we know you get our messages of concern? No need to write if you're not able or ready. Just a thumbs up?

You are deeply missed.

Hello, hello, hello!
Sooo, here I am! Yes, I WAS incredibly frustrated. Then this past Sunday morning I had my umpteenth dislocation! I guess I'm so used to sharing it with you guys that here I am. It was difficult recovering from that fracture, I was still on a walker.

So I had surgery today and will again on Wednesday. Don't have much eenergy right now so I'll just share one thing and come back tomorrow...I mean today. I'm going to share what he said was an option I had.

The GIRDLESTONE PROCEDURE.

I asked him to please repeat what he just said...then I almost threw up. No way no how buddy! So instead today he put my hip back together today and on Wednesday I'll get a mesh wrapped around my joint.

I'm very sleepy, so I'll say au revoir for now.
Miss you all.

@danelady Nice to hear from you but so sorry it is more trouble for you. Have you thought about finding someone who can get to the root cause of all these dislocations? I know we have suggested this before. But it sounds like it is really your only option.

Hi @danelady ,
Like all our other Bonesmart friends, I'm very happy to hear from you :), even though the news is dismal. Oh no, not the GIRLDESTONE PROCEDURE! Is there really no other option. Please do research further whether there is. I wish you good luck concerning this  . Take care of yourself

Constanze

Hi @danelady! It was such a joy to hear from you, though I felt such a kick in the gut when I read that your doctor suggested the Girdlestone. :yikes:

Really hoping the next surgery works. How weary of this you must be!!

Inspite of your continued difficulties, I'm reassured to know that you're still our same spirited danelady! :yes!::loveshwr:

This is heartbreaking! I can't even imagine your discouragement. I really hope / pray that you'll meet with another surgeon. A reputable revision specialist who has no association with your current OS. It seems your surgeon's had more than ample opportunity to redeem himself and if Girdlestone is all he has to offer after the faith you've put in him, and the opportunities you've allowed him to prove himself...Turn Away! Please consider, Jamie's, recommendation and get a fresh set of eyes on the case, someone who can determine why you continue to be plagued with these dislocations, someone that can formulate a plan to correct this once and for all.

I refuse to believe this has to be your fate until you get a second and possibly even a third opinion from qualified revision specialists. To me, your OS has given up. It's understandable that you're weary, but I know you have some more fight in you, danelady, so please draw from that strength, take charge and move away from this surgeon. I have hope that there will come a day when all of this is behind you and you are living out your golden years just as you always dreamed you would. We're behind you all the way! :console2:
@danelady

I interviewed 5 surgeons after my dislocation, it took a while to find the right surgeon. Please explore other options after you get through this next surgery. I have a constraint liner, and they had to repair my medius gluteus as it was completely ruptured by a previous surgeon. Do they have you in a brace for recovery so you don't dislocate while soft tissues heal?

Also - do you still have an active infection? If so, that needs to be resolved or from my understanding you will continue to dislocate. I was checked for infection and there was discussion of sending me to inpatient at Mayo if needed for 24/7 antibiotic treatment and removal of the implant until we got an "all clear", fortunately I didn't have an infection.

Thank you all! I am definitely looking for another dr!!!
Wow, they have really drugged me up this go round, I've NEVER been this out of it the day after surgery. Nap time....again.

@danelady , I agree with Layla who said seek a second opinion, and a possible third one. When I had my hip replacement in 2015. I sought 3 opinions. I did not feel at ease with the first 2 surgeons and opted for the third one at an orthopaedic hospital in Wiesbaden and am very satisfied. Never once had hip pain again in all those years, finished several marathons and one half-ironman.

Yes you are our bravest Bonesmarter!!! So happy to hear from you. When we didnt hear from you I was thinking the worst!!! Yes there has to be another dr with super knowledge!! Hugs to you!

To ditto the prior reply… I was also thinking the worst, I hope you can find the strength to find a surgeon is interested in resolving matters fir you

Oh gosh, I just love you all. This morning I was told I could go home today. I was so ecstatic! Then later I was told I wasn't being discharged after all and the infectious disease dr would be in to speak with me. He just left my room and told me I have...

VANCOMYCIN RESISTANT ENTEROCOCCUS.

What in the what? He said it was up in the hardware and when my surgeon went in that woke it up. So here I lay, pondering the reason for my resistance. He let me know the antibiotics available are very expensive and will find out how much is covered by Medicare. I said 'hey, how 'bout you just discharge me and I go home and die?' We'll all save money that way. So exhausted from it all. Sorry for the vent....:dead:

BTW....Yesterday he had planned on putting mesh in as the capsule but when I spoke with him before surgery we decided that wasn't worth it so he put in a new liner and closed me back up.

I just got a bag of daptomycin. Glad I asked him too because the list of side effects is unending and I'm feeling weird....not weird enough to call and it seems to be subsiding.
Trying to fall asleep now and in case I do...nighty nite all.
