This sounds really promising and I sure hope your good luck holds out for a while to allow you a chance to catch your breath. Don’t give up on searching out different insurance that would allow you to choose your doctors so you can get the opinion of a more experienced surgeon. I still think you need to have someone on your case even if this hip doesn’t dislocate again. You need to be prepared just in case something happens and you need a great doctor quickly.

But I’m really thrilled to hear you’re getting back to normal. Small steps (literally) and take each day as it comes. Sending ((((HUGS))))

Much as I dread to read your posts because they freak me out with ‘what ifs’, I’m really glad to have read this one with its positive news. You have such a fighting spirit. Take care and I hope this time everything works out for you.

Helloooo!!
First off, my my internet provider has been bought out I guess and I am having lots of problems. I live in a very rural area but even though other people complained about their service mine was perfect...until now.
So that's one thing.
Yes, @lanstan , still on antibiotics.. till June 22nd. Really getting tired of it all....

Dr Dinky canceled on me last Tuesday, lol.
My next appointment is in a few hours to get everything taken out. THEN, I have to go to MVD to renew my registration. Ucch, every year I could do it online but I just can't do anything with this new service.

@Jamie, I definitely need to get under the care of a grown up ortho, not one still wet behind the ears like Dr Dinky! I'm taking it easy, but I have to say that the hip feels really strong!

My neighbors who have adopted this old lady and have been with me through all this, are so happy to see me getting better.
The thought had occurred to me that they were distancing themselves from me and my hip, then a couple of days ago they dropped this bomb on me. They are looking for a piece of property with a guest house on it.. for me and my dog. I mean, that floored me.
Life sure takes some strange twists and turns.
Xoxo

@Gloucestergal65 My original surgeon painted such a glorious picture of dancing in a field of daisies with a new hip but if I had known the horror that was waiting for me around the corner I would have definitely waited and done more research.

I looked up the Girdlestone procedure right here on BoneSmart and I feel for some of those people who went thru with it. Yikes!

Good Morning,
I am very happy to read that you're doing better and that your hip feels strong, but given your history, I feel like I am holding my breath. Please go slow and easy, danelady. You've been through so much and it is still extremely early days for you this time around. I do hope you are able to get under the care of a reputable revision surgeon that is able to understand why the dislocations continue to occur and resolve the issue once and for all. I want to see you happy and healthy living your best life in your golden years. Please take good care!

Hi @danelady ! You are hanging in there, and I love hearing the uptick in improvements and then,,,,, your neighbors! That is how the world is supposed to be.
Be careful, luv! I know you are and will continue to do so, but had to say it.

Hello!!!
Been thinking about all of you and I could feel the vibes you guys send out to me! Yesterday I finished my round of daptomycin and all is well. Yay! So I told myself that in celebration I MUST stop in and share the good news and see how you are all doing.

My walking is still pretty wobbly, as if I got 2 new legs and I'm learning how to balance on top, so I keep a cane with me when I'm out and about. Yes, out and about, lol. Yard sales and thrift stores, so nice to be out but no way can I try walking thru a super market or big box store yet. If I do too much I pay for it at the end of the day. The pain in the knee is to be expected but the hip is still hurting, the joint not the incision. Back in January I had no pain in the joint at all but in one of the following surgeries he told me he lengthened my leg so that may be where the pain is coming from, almost feels like the parts are grinding. Then I remember....my last 2 surgeries were only done May 8th and 10th, not very long ago at all, so I'll see how it goes after more time.

It's amazing how little I'm able to do before I call it a day, but every day I can do a little more. Here in southern Arizona the heat is on FULL BLAST so nobody's doing much of anything anyway, lol!

Hugs and kisses to you all!!! :loveshwr:

Sounds good @danelady . I'm happy for you. And no mor dislocations, either. I think you can do without them. :) :-) (: .
There's been a heatwave in Germany, too . Then, after a couple of thunderstorms, it has cooled down a bit but it's still warm.

Hugs

DaneLady…thanks so much for the update. It’s great to hear that you are making steady progress and not overdoing things too much as you try to get your life assembled again. It will take some significant time, due to the traumas you’ve been through. You can do it!!! If your leg was lengthened a bit, at some point some physical therapy (your GP can order Home Health for you) might be helpful to help your body adjust to this new normal.

Thank you all!
Hi Jamie! Great idea! The only kind of home health help you can get around here is someone to meal prep, take your vitals and wipe your butt, lol. Maybe I can make arrangements for a daily session once a week to learn how to deal with this.

I'm down to only one grabber now...guess I'm a little rough on them, lol. I've learned how to make a makeshift grabber when I need to. The 'S' hook on the end of a heavy duty bungee strap is great for hooking onto your keys when you drop them and if I'm in a store and need something on the bottom shelf but it's too far back for me to reach I will first try to hook it with my cane and if that doesn't work I ask for help.

Left the house at 7:30 this morning to fetch a regulator for the rear window in my pickup so I can raise it up, ac don't work real well with an open window, lol. I could have ordered it online but I know ALL the things that can go wrong, like for instance they send me the wrong part, they send it to the wrong address or the truck (with my part) runs off the road and winds up in a ditch. The part is now mine and my OTHER neighbor will slap it in for me. Now I don't mind giving my neighbor a $100 tip for a job well done. The only tip I have for Dr Dinky is to get a REAL medical license, not one off the Operation Game box. Oops, was that too catty? Or was it petty? I was shootin' for catty, lol.

Anyway, I stopped to visit a longtime friend who lived near the parts store and we looked at each other and hugged, happy to know we're both still alive.

Last stop before home I thought I'd finally visit a supermarket after a very long year or more of having them bring the groceries out to me but too many people for me. No handicapped parking available means probably no scooters left (yeah, yeah...hate the scooters but I needed groceries. I stopped at the carneceria about a mile away. Smaller but more personal and all the ingredients to make a quick and delicious Mexican meal.

Stay cool my friends!

Oh, @danelady I know why your neighbors want to "adopt" you! No matter what life has thrown at you, you work your way back on top. Your humor and matter of factness are a wonderful and delightful combination. I have to admire someone who has such simple and focused wants in life. I relate to just wanting to watch the birds and snap a few photos. Maybe that's what sets you apart-you never lose sight of what's important. Well, you're certainly been adopted here and will always have a home here. All the best going forward. Keep us in the loop. Hugs.

@Hip4life I am humbled by your kind words but it ain't been easy. Lol.
To quote the Grateful Dead song...'What a Long Strange Trip it's been.'
Truck driving is a very isolating career which some people can take just fine but it's sheer torture for others. I found it to be like life. You have your route all planned out, fuel tanks full, tires in great shape and you're feeling bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as you start your trip...then BOOM! Road closures, severe weather, tire blowouts and breakdowns in the middle of nowhere! So many life and death decisions are made in just the course of one day. When I started driving the truck and right till I retired (which was 2 years ago last week) I finished up my day/night by setting my brake, putting my feet on the ground and saying thank you...for not hitting anything and for not hurting anyone, including myself, lol.

Well, I had my retirement all planned out too...a little gold prospecting, a little rock collecting and of course taking photos of our beautiful feathered friends...then BOOM!
Never, ever, EVER did I imagine this hip thing! Just another bump in the road I guess.

Oh, BTW, remember I said I saw my old friend and we were both happy to see the other one still alive? We've all known each other 40+ years, through so many deaths and divorces. I found out the woman who introduced me to the rocks and minerals in this area passed away last year. I remember how I laughed inside when I first saw her digging around in the dirt thinking what in the world? Then I saw them! Their light glistened and called to me and it was love at first sight. I said I want to die right here and here I am.
I am happy to know all of you here, it was just what I needed to help me get through this and to continue the fight as well.
Much love.
