Hi Lidia,
Forgot to add, that I packed a bathrobe, but never used it. Maybe when you get your admission time, check whether your hospital lets you stay in the gown, or whether they strongly enourage you to get properly dressed each day. Where I was, you had no choice, everyone had to get dressed in "day" clothes - even tho sometimes it felt like it took half the day to get to that stage!

Thanks Guys... as always very helpful.
Packing list:
few changes of comfy clothes (loose pregnancy sweats and t shirts, and loose warm fuzzy socks with stickys on the bottom :)
1 magazine and 1 book
definitely cell phone/mp3 player - I love music (I will also try to listen to it piror to surgery for as long as they don't take it away from me)
and sponge bath stuff - no chance for a shower, huh??? Man that's going to stink :((

Lidia, I agree with all previous comments. I brought some slip on shoes (more like slippers) that worked well. Even bought a pair a size bigger cause heard about swelling--but didn't need them. I found that a newspaper was all I could handle the first 3 days. If you go to a subacute after that (I did for 5 days) that is where I read magazines and wore loose clothes, sneakers. Got help with dressing though.

Take care and prayers for tomorrow. I am off to work today at 8 wks!!!

Laurie

Hope all goes well for you. And for what it's worth, we never took people's MP3 players away from them when they were having spinals ort a local.

Lidia,
My surgery was on a friday and I was allowed to shower on Monday. My doc used glue to hold the incision together and that is probably why I could shower. (with help)

This is it. Less than 12 hours to go now. I get to show up in Cleveland tomorrow at 9am. We leave here at 6am. Bag is somewhat packed. I'll miss the baby :(

See you guys on the other side!

Lidia

Hi Lidia,

All the best, safe travels,
Monica

God bless you, Lidia. I know He'll take care of you.

guys, made it. Pain is pretty bad. They stretched some muscles. PT got me out of bed this am, that was tough. Again this afternoon. Thanks for all ur prayers ... Lid

Glad to hear from you, Lid. You keep going there - it might be bad but it IS going to get better! Eventually.

Welcome back Lidia. Well done for posting so soon!

All the best,
Monica

Lidia,
Congrats and great for posting so soon. I am always amazed at people who can post from the hospital. I could only sit like a zoombie

Hi Lydia,
great blog, your situation and experiences are very similar to that of my sister. Like me, she had a Left THR just over six weeks ago. She is your age (has just turned 40) and has a 14 month year old. She now cant wait for her right hip to be done and is counting down the days.

Hope they manage to keep ahead of your pain - must be those stretched muscles.
All the best,
Monica

Lidia, Hope today is better for you. Don't quite understand how hospital is dealing with your pain as I remember having my own tube that only I could press if/when I needed more pain medicine (must have been morphine at that point). KNow it helped with the pain but for me it was a compromise between pain and feeling really nauseous and sick. Fortunately, those first few days go by and the rest of your recovery is bound to be so much better. At over 8 weeks out, the misery (remember telling my hubby on second day after surgery to just shoot me) is really a dim memory. I felt like running on the treadmill this a.m. and I am not even a runner!

Take care, Laurie

Hey Guys, I'm home. Don't know how to thank you for helping me get thru this. Today is day 4. My post on here was done by my husband, but I have updated my blog every day from hospital on my phone...

broken link removed: https://www.szaraksblog.blogspot.com

I'm on percocet or whatever it's called. In hospital I had morphine, but no pump, just shots into my IV. The ride home was a bit rough (about 2 hours), so now i'm pretty sore and exhausted. My own bed feels good. Goal for tomorrow: SHOWER! I'm allowed!
No weight bearing, only toe touch for 6 weeks. No swim, bike, etc at this time. PT will come to my house starting on Monday. On days off, my Hubby will do other excercises with me. My leg definitely feels and looks about 1 inch longer. They moved my entire joint down and stretched my muscles 2.5 cmm. I was in OR for about 7.5 hrs.

Gotta get some rest now. God Bless all of you, and I mean. Good luck with everyone's therapy. All I get for now is painful stretching. Can't quite straighten my knee now.

Lidia

Hi Lidia, Well done on escaping the hospital so soon - they must be very happy with your progress. There is nothing better than your own bed :)
