ok, i've never tried it. but yesterday i was thinking. some of our limps are from bad muscle memory, recent trauma (surgery) and alot because we used to have to. i've had a small limp all my life, its now a very well pronounced one when especially when i'm tired.. i wonder the whole mantra heel toe heel toe. where i think hypnosis is really silly i wonder if it would work for something like this. i'm going to look into it. it does sound interesting to me. i dont even know how its done. has anyone else ever thought of this or tried it. but if they claim to be able to help stop smoking this should be easier shouldnt it.?? had a friend that did it because of fear of needles and essentially continuing to limp is a fear of pain. we start walking funny because were avoiding pain, but having to go on. let me hear your thoughts.

You know, Dakota, I've never heard anyone discuss this on the forum, but it would be interesting to see if it would work for someone. Be sure and let us know what you find out. And, if you decide to try it, that would be interesting too!

I've praticed and taught self hypnosis which is not the kind of thing you see done by David McKenna (or whoever!). What I do is largely deep relaxation. I once helped a lady with very high blood pressure get her reading down from sky high to almost normal in about 45 mins! I've done it myself once when about to undertake a cardiac stress test!

When I had that anxiety attack first time around in 1980 and had to have 6 months off sick, I went to a local doctor who taught S/H to pregnant ladies and they would do it during delivery thereby needing no meds or epidurals. One of my staff nurses went to him and was filmed for BBCtv. She said it was very effective. I also found it very effective for getting control of my anxiety state but I was out of practice to do it when it happened recently.

So, I've seen it used for delivery, used it myself for many different things. But I do it myself. I don't have someone else 'taking charge of my mind' to make me do it. Wouldn't like that at all.

I think, given the right kind of tutor, it could very well enable you being able to retrain your mind to accept the new gait. After all, I used it when learning to swim - could not get the hang of breast-stroke one week and by the next week, I could swim! I did the same when learning to ride a horse - getting the rythm of a rising trot (you US folk may not know about that) but when I returned the following week, my tutor was amazed to see I had it off to a 'T'!

S/H - love it!

thanks jo. thats what i wondered. i'm going to look into it. and my daughter rides english if you checked out my blog today you'll see a pic . she has beautiful form. and they work with a rising trott, with and without stirrups. you know we have english and western so it may not even be called that there. lol. i learned that too when i was growing up. but my aunt always got onto me for slouching, said she would put a yardstick down my shirt to keep me straight. i think i very well may do that. i may have told you i've hand picked my surgical team and the circulating nurse is a friend of mine. 30 years experience. and its so nice to know they all know what their going into. and are excited because they see me and know that it can only get better.

It's so nice when you can do that, isn't it? I've 'stood in' for so many friends and family over the years, from checking them in to recovering them. We have a saying over here - you don't get many perks in this job so why not take advantage of those you can get!

yeah, and i'm making os a cd, because he likes to listen to music when he is in surgery keeps him focused. it is nice going in to really know success rates, infection rates, to know that the people taking care of you are invested in it. i let my dr know i have alot of faith in him. i told him that i know there is no way of knowing what hell be running into so he needs to do what he knows is right. he plans to fix a 1 1/2 inch leg discrepency. only the 1/2 inch is new so if the nerve is already shortened i told him just to take the inch off in the other one when he does it if it is. hey he has all the x rays and will be taping the procedure. he has the chance to make a masterpiece.

you know we say that too. lol

I'm a big believer that hypnosis can help to overcome habits and make desired changes in your behavior; should, could work on muscle memory limping.

A limp may be "forgotten", but isn't the skeletal structure still compromised and deteriorated!

i wondered that too, my sockets were shallow to begin with and when they do this they will actually change direction it will be interesting because the shelf procedures were different. i still think i'm going to try it .
