I'm starting my 11th week post-op. My knee is still stiff. I know you need
to do exercises and the more I do the stiffer it gets and ice doesn't help. Does anyone else have this problem?

This Thursday will be 15 weeks for me; mine gets stiff if I am up and walking more than normal OR if I leave it in one position for too long OR if the weather is about to make a big change OR if I do something to put more than normal amount of stress on it. I have not gotten full ROM, so there is a stopping point, but I thought you were asking about general stiffness through the motion. No ides what or how much you are doing (or for that matter how much stiffness) but it is reasonable to expect stiffness as long as there is swelling.

I'm at 11 weeks and the description Gat gave is pretty much the same as mine..The leg is real stiff in the a.m. also. I have to go down 14 steps to get downstairs in the a.m. by the time I'm at the bottom nobody better be around the coffee pot.
I worked the heck out of my legs this morning at the gym, and iced it when I got home. It really fills pretty good now.
Is your tight area just above the knee?

I agree with Doug and Gat (that's a first). I am at 16+ weeks and my knee still is stiff in the morning, etc. It tends to work itself out of the stiffness as I move around, but if I stay in one position (like standing to do make-up and hair) it fights back. I try to elevate it in the evening and ice it, but now that it doesn't hurt all that much I forget. I think that is a good thing??

I am at 11 weeks. When I ride long distances in a car, I come out paralyzed.
But I confess, I kind of had that before the surgery. Probably aging joints and
legs all the way around. I have a bit of stiffness when I get out of bed but it passes quickly and is marginal compared to "the early days" when my leg felt broken at times. My job involves being on my feet all the time so it really doesn't get stiff there but it is swollen when I get home. I am told 9-12 months for the swelling/stiffness to totally subside.

I'm 13 weeks.....riding or driving also makes my leg stiff and achey...I look like a 90 year old woman when I first step out of my car....I have to stand there for a while, pretending I'm looking for something in my purse!!!!

dw,
Please, adjust your belt buckle. Pull your drawers out of your butt. Please no purse..

Don't they call those "manbags" and not a purse?

So you watch Fox and Friends in the morning?

I think knees stay stiff for a long time as my husband had his done many years ago and he no longer gets a stiff knee and a friend that had his done about one year ago and he still has a stiff knee often.
I just think it's something you learn to live with and at some point you just notice heh it's not stiff anymore.
I am 13 weeks out and I have a stiff knee more often than a normal knee. Go figure.

I have a few weeks less than you and I really find the stiffness comes from inactivity like riding in a car or sleeping. Movement means no stiffness for me.

I am kind of glad that getting out of the car I move slowly as it makes me less guilty about that handicapped parking permit. Takes me a while to warm up.

How is old Rush, Jamie? Haven't heard him in a while...

Boy, I don't know what age he is....I would think around 60 maybe. He used to work here in Kansas City many years ago for the Royals baseball team.

At 19 weeks post op I am still stiff over the front of the knee and knee cap especially when ascending and descending stairs also after sitting or standing for an extended period.
I had therapy yesterday and will have my last session tomorrow before seeing the doc on Thursday. There were several times today that I felt twinges of tenderness, especially in the incision. It may be because I had an exceptionally challenging weekend. I worked all weekend was on my feet for 7 hours on Saturday. Our business had a "booth" at our local "Home Show" which ran from Friday thru Sunday, and there are only 3 of us to work, so we were all there every day all day. I was able to leave about an hour early both Saturday and Sunday. This evening after working all day was able to climb the stairs with items in both hand and did not use the rail to pull up on! YEA!

Fantastic. Up the stairs w/o holding the railing...One of my goals. Darn sure not there yet. At 55 I hate the clock to move forward too quickly. But I sure look forward to complete recovery..
