I have my bedroom up stairs at my house. Does this meen I have to live up there for a few weeks???:pzld::pzld::pzld::sct::sct::sct:

After the surgery and before you go home, they will show u how to mannuver stairs. Now i lived in a house with the bedroom upstairs, so i just slept on the reclyner downstairs and quite honestly it was more comfortable than sleepinig in the bed with that stupid pillow abductor, or whatever it was called. The thing you have to put between your legs so they dont cross.

Did you use the pillow abductor on the recliner? How long were you sleeping downstairs on it? Last but not least my shower is upstairs:sct: now what......

Hello I did live up here for awhile because i just didnt feel like it but thy will show you how to do a few stairs before you leave well they should..........

I slept with the pillow abductor for a few weeks on the reclyner. It was near the end of my marriage and i had been sleeping in the reclyner prior to the surgery, thats where i was sleeping when the hip originally dislocated before my 3rd THR.And I think one of my surgeries i only had a bathroom upstairs. Geesh i cannot remember. I know i had one of them toilet chairs. the chairs that goes right over the toilet, that can be set up anywhere, there is a bowl that you can use as a moveable toilet. But as for a shower, I was married at the time and the hubby helped me do the shower thingy. I remember the first time trying to lift the leg over the tub, was so hard and hubby stayed in there with me incase i was gonna fall.
Hope that helps some

They teach you how to do steps one at a time. I'm stubborn and don't like to be confined to one place so I slept upstairs and spent my day downstairs. As long as you take yor time you'll be fine. They teach you to do it so all the pressure and strength is on your good leg so it really doesn't hurt. Plus I think it forces your muscles to work sooner...and you feel more normal and therefore mentally you heal faster.

I am going to need both done, I believe the doc wanted to do one and about a week or two later do the other. Boy am I in for a world of hurt:shk:

will you have weight bearing? They may not want you on stairs to begin with because of the muscular strength needed but I started to feel more comfortable on my operated leg within the first week and a half or so...

Oh no, hun - we have these clever little things called pain killers! :hehe: No need for you to be in any pain so long as you take them sensibly!

They taught me stairs at the hospital. My bedroom was upstairs so i did stairs from the first day home every day. No big deal. But it was only one hip for me.
