Once you start out-patient P/T, how many days a week should you go. I know insurance will only approve so many days, but would going 5 days a week be too much? Of course this will all depend on if my husband has to have the manipulation, will know that Monday.
Thanks to all.

Things being done a little differently here in the UK, but I had a sheet of exercises given me in hospital and thereafter, three visits to the physio (PT) just for assessment. The rest was up to me!

I had 3 days per week for the first 6 weeks (at government (OHIP) funded physio). Then I dropped back to 2 per week of OHIP + 1 per week of private physio. I just finished the OHIP physio last week after going for 9 months. I still am not able to get more than 105 degrees flexion and -10 degrees extension.

I was in the hospital for two weeks following my surgery and had PT/OT daily till I was released. Then I had PT twice a week, then as the scar tissue built up, three times a week.

After the manipulation, I had two weeks at three times a week and now I'm back to twice a week.

Plus, I do exercises at home a couple days a week. (I should do them more often, but I'm busy, dangit!)

I am at two weeks right now---have been having outpatient pt twice a week since two days after surgery.

My doc just ordered 3 x a week for 8 weeks. Told me to reelvauate my needs at that time. He will also order six weeks 3 times a week before the start of ski season to make sure I am completely back.

At this point, since I am 65, I use Medicare--but I also have an additional policy as well.

Ouch

I had 5 days a week for 3 weeks then 3 days a week then the last 2 weeks I had 2 times a week. I had PT for 2 months. Just finished my last one on Wed. Now I am to start at a center of my choice for 2 times a week for 3 weeks.

Just make sure the PT is not too hard on hubby. My PT did not believe in forcing the joint. It was great and my rom
is coming along fine.:D

I had PT twice daily in hospital for two days
I had PT twice daily in rehab for 7 days
I have done Outpatient PT 2 x wk since them.
Days I do not have therapy I do prescribed PT at home

Boy are we all over the map as far as PT goes. I went 2x a day in the hospital for 3 days, then 2x week for three weeks and then 1x a week for two more weeks. A relative had the same Dr. as I do and he didn't go to PT at all but opted to do it himself. The Doc did not object.

A lot may have to do with the insurance coverage, and we all know how many plans there are!!!

My health insurance gave me a window of 60 days post surgery during which I could go to PT as much as I wanted. The therapist, however, recommended no more than 3 days a week with a day of rest inbetween. I did my regular home exercises on the inbetween days. I still do those exercises as well as go to Planet Fitness 3 days week. I'm still working on my quad muscles, which are getting stronger. I can tell when I get out of my low seat in my Camry that those muscles have improved.

Ouch
Let us know what the doctor says after the appointment. I'll be anxious to hear if he wants to do a MUA at this point. As you can see, the PT is varied from patient to patient and from doctor to doctor. Hope your getting along ok and really do let us hear from you next Monday.
Blessings to you~

Thank you NancyO.
I will definitely post his appointment outcome on Monday. He is so anxious about the appointment, and he still has 3 days. I feel so sorry for him. He is trying so hard. He is getting depressed, and so am I, but I don't let him see it. I come to this forum and read all the other posts, and tell him how other people are coping and he is not alone in his pain.
The doctor expects him to walk in the office on a cane, and he just cannot do it yet. Maybe one step and that's about it. I know fear is playing a big part.
But personally, I think he has improved tremendously in 3 1/2 weeks. He tries so hard and I told him no matter what the outcome is Monday, I am proud of him and think he has done great.
Thank you all for caring.

Oh Ouch! You are such a sweetheart! Nothing like being your spouses biggest advocate and cheerleader! Keep up the great work......BOTH of you make a great team!!! :)

My PT experience was the same as Jo's.

All of which goes to prove there is no standard or 'right' way to do it. Another of those 'surgeon's preference' things. Oy! There are so many of them!

I spent 10 days at inpatient rehab with PT for at least 2 hours a day plus OT and the CPM machine etc

3 x week home PT for 2 weeks

3 x week for 3 months

2 x week for 2 month

1 x week for 1 month

I also did my exercises every day at home along with the bike. All this helped me avoid a MUA as 7 months later we did get to 120 and 0/-3.

I am lucky to have good insurance which did not limit PT and paid for it except a $1000 deductible.

Simon:
Looking back now, would you rather have had the manipulation than having to go through all those weeks of P/T?
