hi Barbara, yes I agree with you also wish I had found this forum before, it is very informative and very encouraging. I have learned more here than from anyone else in the medical field, and it is just great to hear how others are coping. I am now almost 4 mos. out from RkTR and am only now within last few weeks actually noticing a big improvement, went thru "hot knee, stiffness, soreness and all but now is almost normal. Am now scheduled for LKTR on 8/25/09 and am feeling very confident about it, because I know so much more what to expect. Everyone on this forum is very helpful and I want to thank them all.

Hello Barbara,it is a long road before you feel great, so sorry that you cant take any pain pills thats got to be very hard. you have my prayers

Hi cripplenomore,
Yes, the days sure do drag. Of course some are better than others. I live alone too with 3 dogs. Sometimes I feel sorry for myself, I guess, because it would be so nice to have someone help out and pamper me a bit.......but maybe this just makes us stronger. Anyway, it is what it is.......and I am hoping to get back into the world soon. I really miss the mall and Starbucks.
I think weekends are the hardest to get through. What little tricks do you have for dealing?

Barbara, when you are lonely or feeling a bit down, why not come on the forum and chat with your friends here. There is almost always someone on you can talk with. You could start a new thread here in the recovery forum if you wanted to talk about a specific recovery issue or question or in the Social forum if you just wanted to talk.

We're here for you to help those days pass faster! We'd love to see some photos of your puppy dogs if you would like to post them in a social thread! Lots of animal lovers here!!!

I went for my month checkup with the doc last Wed. and all is great. I can bend my knee to 130 so the doc said I don't need physical therapy anymore.
Today was my first day back swimming. It felt great.....but now the knee is more swollen and stiff. Maybe I pushed too much.
Everyday gets better. Thank goodness for ice.

Hi Barbara! And Welcome! Surely you can take SOMETHING to relieve your pain! Have you called your OS? Of course you're frustrated! Who wouldn't be???:sct:

At a month out, I think you did push to hard. Rest,
elevate, and take something for pain and then in the future take it a little easier. You have 130 rom and that is fantastic!!!!! Slow and easy will get you there and you do not need to push it only winds up in pain.

Hope you feel better really soon.

Barb,
Sometimes we feel so great that it is easy to over due. And since you have such great Rom it would be so easy to think that you can go, go, and go. But you still need to go at things slowly. Like everyone it is hard not too rush. But you will pay for it if you do not remember ohhhhh I just had a knee replaced and need to go at things just a little slower. LOL

Setting those boundaries and learning to live within them is hard. Kind of trial and error. Be patient, you are doing wonderful and will continue to feel better. Just remember to ice and elevate when swelling or pain occurs and this will help. Get some good books and have fun reading. Catch up on sewing, handiwork, etc.

I'm almost 4 months and finally feeling a little like my old self. Still have to baby the knee though, but it's not as bad as it was. Time is the greatest healer....unfortunately! No one likes to sit still and wait for healing to happen. It will get better!

Hey Barbara, Sounds like your ROM is great wow. Just take it easy dont go backwards. I dont like to sit still at all either...But your doing great and I sure hope it continue..And you are never ever alone someone is always on here..Send someone a message. Im sure anyone would be glad to talk...I would..lol..Hang in there, we are all pulling for ya!!!!!PS and alot of DVD's. There is nothing ever on TV...lol

I started this almost 3 weeks ago with the first thread, and can't believe I even thought all of this. And WOW can I see a difference now! I am so much better. I have anew meaning to the words "over do" and know the place this takes in my life . The tightness is almost gone, the heat and swelling are only if I overdo it. The pool has helped me so much. Riding the cycle helps too. My PT says I am ready for round 2 now of PT. This means strength training so I can last at work. I am so thankful for this forum and all I have learned. Hang in there everyone! It gets better. Hugs, Old Goat

I am so proud of you and hope your are proud of yourself. That really is a good accomplishment....Keep up the good work and keep us posted. Thanks for that I really needed that.

Wow it is so hard to believe that it has only been 3 weeks ago!! And things are going better for you right? And you are getting ready for school to start. You are ready to get back to teaching and to see all the wonderful children, I can understand that. It sounds great but, I also feel like you are saying good bye to us here. I hope that it isn't good bye. I still want to hear how everything goes for you when you start back to work.
I hope you will come on once in awhile and share these things with us.

Goat, that's great! Good for you.

So glad you are doing so well. Get plenty of rest, strength training can be draining. Keep up the hard work and you will reap the benefits of a strong leg to go with that new knee.

Blessings,

Thanks for the encouragement, and NO I am not leaving. I know my time will get 'involved'. I have been going up to the school some to get my room ready. I am trying to work a little in advance so I won't have so much at once, pacing myself I guess. I get so tired I can't even think at times! What a wimp! lol :> I will get there. I just have to take it easy at times and not be so hard on myself. I hate to say it but I think my right knee is the one to give me trouble now. So maybe next summer I will have to do it, ugh, 3 summers in a roll with knee surgeries. I'll wait and see. I just got approved for more PT. So let the new series of torture begin!!! Woo Hoo!!
Take care all, Old Goat

Howdy you better not go...lol....We need ya here!!!!You are so not a wimp. Far from it....These replacements are big ole' surgeries.....Im glad your pacing yourself and as you said O hope your students will help you out a lil bit....Yes pain and torture (PT) gotta love it !!!! Good Luck I hope you feel better....

No! You DON'T get put out to pasture!!!:hehe:

So what do you teach. Most folks do not understand how much extra time teachers have to put in. Also how much of their own money they use to buy the supplies they need.

HI Old Goat
I'm a teacher, too. I teach Kindergarten. What do you teach? I am worried about getting back to school. I take a nap everyday and keep the good ole ice handy. What will we do once we start back? I worry about being tired and having a swollen stiff knee by the end of the day.
Everyone is so wonderful here.
