Surgery was yesterday, been for 3 short walks today, IV's are out and NO MORE HIP PAIN. Everything going great so far, surgeon thought everything went perfect. On the road to recovery
Congratulations. The lack of hip pain is fabulous. I had my surgery yesterday also and I am now home. Trying to move every half hour to loosen the muscles and work on my gait.
Oh I remember it well, seeing patients wake up in recovery after a hip replacement with a great big smile on their face! Nothing quite like it!
I think you would find the recovery articles helpful right now. Do read and absorb!
Hip Recovery: The Guidelines
1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now, they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.
4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these
BIG TIP: Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.
We try to keep the forum a positive and safe place for our members to talk about their questions or concerns and to report successes with their joint replacement surgery. While members may create as many threads as they like in a majority of BoneSmart's forums, we ask that each member have only one recovery thread. This policy makes it easier to go back and review history before providing advice.
Happy to hear that all went well @Hotrod97, welcome to recovery. I know you have heard it already, but it's worth repeating....rest, ice, elevate and take your meds.
Welcome to the Bilateral contingent, @Hotrod97 That first walk after surgery with NO hip pain is truly amazing and fabulous, isn't it?! I remember it well. And if you take it slow, follow the BoneSmart mantra, it will only get better and better.
Double hippy Hotrod. That hip pain being gone was first thing that struck me too. I was truly amazed.
Of course, there's that other pain, but all temporary.
Happy for you....easy does it now and Yay for no hip pain.
Day 2 Post Op almost in the books. Walked the hallways today. Amazing how much my range of motion has improved over what it was Pre Op and first time in probably ten years I don't have groin pain when I walk. Totally happy with my decision thanks to everyone for all of the well wishes and support.
Ps looking forward to joining the Bilateral 'club' myself, you are all so inspirational, thanks for helping on this journey single or double it is a challenge for everyone.
Yessiree @mcopt .
In the south, we call it "stepping in high cotton"
which means you are doing well.
Of course, might take a little recovery time, but I'm doing it right now.
