I was wondering if it is normal for my knee to still feel warm 4 months after TKR.? Have written before about having nerve pain in same knee and am currently on Gabapentin for that, with some success.

Love this site, it has been such a huge help with my recovery questions.
Thanks

I think so, mine was still a little warm at my 4 1/2 month visit, but can't tell you when it went after that. It can still warm up if I walk a fair way or exercise but not like those very early days. I could have fried an egg on it.

It will cool down in time. Best wishes.

Sorry you have hot knees , Im only 5 weeks and I going thru tht now. So I know what cha mean. its terrible. Try to hang in there.........Post if you need to .......Kim

Absolutely...my revision will be 4 months on May 15th and you could cook an egg on it at times...my rtkr from last year is finally cool...the revision knee nerves still fire up now and then..it's a pain.

I had that happen one night last week, almost 6 months PO and I got those little electrical spark type feelings again, only one night then gone again, I just thought, "Oh well a bit more repair going on".

Can you please explain a little more about the hot knee and healing? I've read lots and asked many questions, but have never heard about this before.

Well I dont know what it is excatly , Im sure someone can explain why, but feels like you can cook an egg on it. But it does get pretty warm so no dont be alarmed. Just feels real warm. I just ice it alot. Mine started about 2 weeks ago, and Im almost 5 1/2 weeks. I heard it can go up to 3 mths. Thats just mine anyway. o you have a surgery coming up, or have you had it............Kim

Mine was hot instantly, it is just a definite warmth that is different to your other knee, nothing to be alarmed about it's just part of the healing process. At my 3 week check up the OS said it would take a few months (at least) to cool, and at almost 6 months mostly it's gone, just warms up a bit after exercise.

As long as you feel well, and it's not accompanied with a fever, redness and swelling, it's all just part of the journey.

There's cellular activity going on in the knee area it's healing still......on a bone scan they're called hot spots...

You can see them on the scans...like it was one of the ways my OS decided on a revision...too much activity in a year and half for the tkr...

So how do you know what is to long for it to remain hot before something is wrong ? If I am understanding correctly........

Kim,

Again it's relative to the person, it's related to healing so don't worry about it. It's only if it's accompanied by the other things I mentioned above you need to look into it. I don't think it has a time limit, but I'm sure Jo or Jamie will correct me if I'm misleading you.

Thanks Chris, Im sure its nothing but just good old well, "hot legs" but boy it definitly gets hot sometimes I dont even want the blanket on it, but all and all I can see improvement ea week, much better then last week and the week before. So I am happy....still wish I could walk on it, Im not sure why, I do try but I get nevous and feel like it cant hold me ...A no trust thing, again not sure why. I guess it will come, but it doesnt really hurt thats great......Yeah!!!! How are you doing...I hope sure hope well........Kim

Aussie is correct. It can take months for the heat to disappear completely...healing takes TIME!!! Try not to worry...you're still very new in recovery and you'll get there!!

I dont blame you actually I didnt and wish I would have found this forum 1st. Lots of info and great people. I think they know as much about me as my family...Post any questions you have someone will help you. But we will be there for you. You will be fine it is worth it. . Kim
