After several wrong turns I have found a surgeon versed in metal allergy solutions. For my 11/13/24 right knee TKA. he will use a Smith & Nephew hypoallergenic knee and their Cori robotic system which he tells me does not employ cutting blocks. I have been so concerned about cutting blocks after learning on the BoneSmart forum about nickel debris generation during surgery. I hope to post in a year or so that all is well as that's about the time period it took for problems to arise in my history of metal rejections in other parts of my body.

Congratulations on finding a surgeon you feel confident in, @Graceland76, and getting your surgery scheduled.

Since you still have a bit of time to get ready for surgery, I will share some articles about preparing for knee replacement surgery:

Good nutrition is just as important during both the pre-operative period as it is during recovery. Check out this helpful information on Pre-surgery Dietary Tips and on Nutrition Basics.

Wish you luck with the upcoming surgery. I too suffer from metal allergies (cobalt and highly allergic to nickel) and only discovered it after I had my knee replaced. Dealt with constant soreness, stiffness and swelling in the knee due to the metal implant I had. I had the entire implant replaced with a Smith & Nephew Legion model earlier this year and that solved all of my problems. Now the knee works very well. I'm confident your Smith & Nephew implant will also do the trick for you. Good luck!

Best Wishes tomorrow!

If you are concerned about allergies and your implant- also be careful about shellac/gel nail manicures. These use methylacrylate glue which is also used in most knee implants. That is fine for most of us- but 10% of people who have regular manicures become allergic to methylacrylate apparently. It is a big issue for nail technicians. I have stopped having shellac manicures as I just don't want to take any risks in terms of developing an allergy to my implant.
