Tomorrow is my new hip's first birthday--and I'm here to tell you, that if I hadn't been to my OS today for my one-year follow-up, I'd likely have forgotten this THR had ever happened!
Today's Xrays were, in his words, "sparkling and rock-solid," and he said to come back in 2 years, rather than one. Sounds good to me!
After seeing a friend's amazingly quick recovery a few years back, and much research, I chose to have direct anterior approach surgery. Luckily, there's a surgeon in my area who not only specializes in hip & pelvic surgery, but in this approach. Can't say enough good things about it! Surgery on a Thursday, home on Saturday. NO RESTRICTIONS! No PT, just exercises at home. Glued incision, not stapled, so able to shower immediately (heaven!). Walker was history by day 10, never used a cane. Slept on my operated side on day 15. Went back to work at 5 weeks--never looked back.
Today, I work full time, wear 3-inch heels, touch my toes, go to the Y, walk a 115 lb Lab, play Wii games, sit cross-legged on the floor with a 3-year old granddaughter, perch 4-month-old twin grandbabies on my hip . . . do anything & everything I'd normally do. In other words--hip? What hip? It's all just ME! :D
Thanks, Dr. Y! Thanks, Jo & Jamie! And thanks, Bonesmartie friends--you're the best! And to all you newbies -- you'll be posting like this before you know it! It is SO worth it! :thmb:
