Excellent news Jean - hopefully things will start moving for you now.

:wow: That means you'll be feeling better SOON!!!!!
:thmb:

Jean,
That is wonderful news! I'm so happy that the wheels of medicine are moving at a faster pace than usual! We'll pray that your surgery also has a date in the not so distant future!
Blessing always Jean~

Great news Jean please let us know how it goes...Wont be long now I hope......And take care of that eye.....Best wishes....

Well it's 21st tomorrow - the day I see the Consultant and I am a bit anxious about what the outcome will be. I know
really it's 99.9% sure I will be written in for an op in the near future but I still don't really want to know that.:skp:

I spent nearly four hours yesterday afternoon at the hospital with my son as he had a cataract removed.
He seemed very blase about it but afterwards he admitted he had been very nervous in case it went wrong.
But heyho- today he can already see extremely well with that eye and is having the other eye done in three weeks.
Nothing to do with hips and knees I know but just at the same hospital. I kept thinking to myself that in two days
time I will be there about me:doh:

How was your visit to your consultant Jean? I hope it went well. I am glad your son is doing well too, I expect he was blase about it so as not to make you too worried about him. Let us know how you are doing, I know it is scary but getting that hip done will be the best thing ever for you.

Thank you Steph. Yes, outcome was as expected and the wheels are in motion to sort me out for a date. As I am on so much medication for all sorts of problems :skp: there are lots of tests to be done before he agrees that I am fit enough to withstand the op - but I expect everybody has them done anyway. When he has all results then I will go back to see him to discuss date and have my questions answered.

Very nice consultant, very business like, but clinic was running nearly two hours late which was not very good as I had another appointment at the Eye Casualty within two hours. Nurses on duty kindly brought me to the head of the queue and I made the next appointment with just minutes to spare.

Eye not very good - different stuff to use eight times each day and another appointment for Monday to see the Corneal Consultant! I seem to spend far too much time at the hospital lately.

Then what do you know? This ointment (chloramphenical?) aggravated my eye, it all swelled up again and I have hardly been able to see it is so painful. Only thing that eases it is a cold wet flannel. That is the reason I haven't posted until now. It is slightly better today but if I spend too long looking at the computer screen the tears just run down my face and it's painful!

One good thing, if you can call it good, about having such a painful eye condition is that it sort of takes over everything else and I really hardly thought about the orthopaedic appointment at all.

p.s. Son is improving daily - he is amazed how bright everything is :D and he is hoping to return to work in a few days.

Meant to ask - how is your hip doing Steph? Running about now I bet :hehe:

Janis!!! Things WILL get better and sort themselves out! Glad your son is seeing better! As for YOU!! GET OFF THE COMPUTER and rest your eyes!!! Post when you're better!! ((:0)

Janis,
Well i love my hip so much, I'm glad you are on your way to getting one too. ABout the eye, I sure hope that clears up now. I had an eye problem a few months ago , scarey although not painful. Now I have a hole developing in my macular. It is scarey to have vision problems. I;lll be praying that yours clears up soon.

Judy - hope your eye is improving 'cos as you said it is scary to have eye problems.
Glad to say my eye is very much improved - seems that the ointment I was told to use eight times each day was
causing all the inflamation and swelling as I am allergic to the preservatives in it!

I had a nice letter from the Orthopaedic consultant today thanking me for going to see him. He said he was glad that I am able to talk over my hip problems with my sister. Well, he was trained by the two pioneers of joint replacements, MrMcKee and Mr Watson-Farrar, and I just maybe might have mentioned that Jo trained with them too:hehe:
Examination details: Right hip flexion 90degrees abduction 5degrees - means nothing to me at the moment but Jo said not good :nah:
I am now waiting to be sent a date to see him again and hopefully get an op date.

Now hope it's SOONER than LATER, Janis! You're well on your way!!! ((:0)

"Well on my way"? OOO-er! it is making me feel really nervous as things seem to be happening now.
Another letter arrived this morning from hospital with October 1st for a pre-op.
[Bonesmart.org] Hip Replacement for me soon?

So I am thinking it will be mid October when the deed is done. I had better start planning ahead as it's not long is it?

All the advice is to keep 'icing' but I cannot stand icy cold - I would rather use a hot wheat bag. Icy makes me shudder - will I have to use it??? Any body else not like ice?

:skp:

I was delighted to find this bit of information :D

"Physical therapists and doctors favor the perspective that both hot and cold therapy can help relieve joint agonies. Both approaches are very useful for relieving aches that incur from athletics injuries, tendonitis, after surgery, sprains, sore joints and muscles. In hot therapy, using a hot water pack to apply to the knee joints can help relieve the tight and sore muscles whereas in cold therapy, ice packs are often used to alleviate the swelling and stiffness."

Hi Janis,
Like you, I can't stand ice packs:evil:. Never had one put on in the hospital, and I have never used one since. But then, I didn't have as much pain as some folks have reported, and as for swelling, the first leg swelled and it went down to my foot, but by the time I had my second surgery, 8 weeks later, most of it was gone. By the time I left the hospital, it was all gone. The second leg didn't swell as much and is now almost completely gone (didn't go down to my foot). When my knee would do its twitchy thing, I put a heat pad on it. When I go to physio, they put on heat before I start and don't use ice packs:thmb:
Keep us posted on your upcoming preop and surgery.

Glad I'm not the only one Loghaula, but I have been 'spoken to' by Josephine and she says hot is not good for
new surgery!
:nah:

Up to now I have been wondering if I really need a new hip but having spent a very restless night because hip and knee were so painful and this morning my knee feels quite stiff and walking is literally a pain, I think if I will be pleased if I am offered a date very soon. Well, if they give me time to pack my bag and decide what I have to take with me.
(will have to have a word with Sis and see what she took:hehe:)

Janis,
My back surgery is Oct 1st so I will be thinking about you and your pre-op apt. Hip replacement is such a wonderful surgery, you will be so happy you did this. Truly in that case the waiting is the most difficult part. Don't worry. Ice is definately better, but i did not use it too much on my hip. As far as swelling, both my legs down to my toes swelled, so I would have had to been covered in ice!!!

Glad your eye is better and to think the treatment was making it worse!! Just crazy.
You have made the right decison.
judy

Judy - 1st October - thinking about your back surgery and hoping all is going ok for you.
Just seen your post that your op has been postponed Judy - so sorry to hear that.
My pre-op for hip has been postponed until 22nd October as consultant couldn't do his clinic today for some reason.
I have also decided that because of the stairs it would be best to move from our house to a bungalow before I have my hip done anyway so here we are with the house on the market and clearing out all the cupboards etc etc. in readiness for a move. Amazing how much junk has accumulated when you have lived in a house for 50+ years. We haven't found a suitable bungalow yet as have to sell our property first so that we know how much money is available

Then my eye has been a problem again. I actually saw the consultant a few days ago and he has decided that my eye needs to be 'polished' to clear the damaged surface. I asked if it was a painful procedure and he said not "but it could be rather painful for a few days afterwards"! Op date for that is 13th October.
:skp:

Oct 1st was not a good day for plans.
I never heard of polishing an eye. Make sure you have good pain meds for that. Good luck. What was wrong with your eye again???
I don't go back until November to see how my hole is developing . the eye doc said surgery is the only cure, but he wanted to wait until i lost more vision to do it.
