Hip Replacement for me soon?

...Janis, do you have any dates yet for your hips?

Your sis doesn't usually mind people unthreading her threads too much - she is far too nice! :hehe:
:thmb:

(Thought it best if I answer on 'my' thread)

No stives - I was offered Cambridge, Ipswich or Kings Lynn but declined as I would rather go to
Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital which is nearest to me. They said I probably have to wait
another 6 - 8 weeks to see a consultant.

This is the offending hip

Doesn't look too good Janis - best get that out and get a nice, new, shiny one put in. :thmb:

Hey Janis .I cant tell but Jo knows so yes get you a nice new pretty one. You deserve to walk around pain free. I hope it wont be much longer. Hang in there it will be over in no time and you'll be well on your way to recovery....Please keep us posted............

i cant wait for you. i'm only 11 days post op and can already tell you , your going to love it.

I do hope so mdakota. You sound as if it was a doddle!

I have just heard (unofficially) that I have an appointment with the consultant about mid August when he will tell me if I need the op. I am quaking in my shoes but having had several nights tossing and turning because my hip and knee ache so much I couldn't get comfortable and then last night just going over and over what it will actually be like - I know I must get it done so that I can get on with my life and walk about more easily.

And maybe even run like this >>>

Janis, this has been a long wait for you, but I'm so thankful that it appears you will be able to get your surgery soon. (((HUGS)))) to you and of course we will want to know how your appointment goes!

Just let us know what the outcome is and I'm sure that there will be someone here that can help. If they start talking to you about fusions I would be that person, and if it's a THR then I wouldn't know untill the end of August.

Thanks Cmonroe and Jamie I shall post update when I hear something.

Had to go to hospital today for a check up on my eye as I
have an ulcer on my eye and it has been extremely painful -
kept me awake half the night.
Thankfully it has cooled down a bit now so I can see to be on
my computer for a little while but now my hip has decided to be
a nuisance so I can hardly sit still.

:skp:

Hello Jean!
I've been sitting here reading your x-ray, LOL Thats a pretty nasty looking piece of film my dear. It's no wonder you can't sit still. I can certainly understand your need to have this looked at and repaired as soon as they can schedule you.
How are you feeling otherwise? What is hubby doing? Is he better and more settled after his heart issues? Are you doing any gardening?
Tell me how the hip is feeling now? I'm honestly curious Jean. Really want to know some more details if you have the time. Take care of yourself girl.... want to hear from you real soon.....
Blessings always and always.
Nancyo

Jean, sorry to hear about your eye ulcer. Dang, if it's not one body part, it's ANOTHER. NO FAIR!!! I know you're doing a good job of dealing with these issues one at a time. And I pray that real soon you'll have the biggest problem (the mean hip) taken care of. You're in my thoughts, sweetie!!

Hello Nancyo
Nice to hear from you - how are you getting on now?

As I said my hip is extremely painful when I am sitting at my computer right now - but I think it will hurt just as much when I sit to watch TV. I can't believe how much it has deteriorated lately. Now I always have to use a walking stick and even 10 minutes walking round the supermarket is enough for me.

Jack has problems walking so he always sits in the car while I do the shopping. This is not because of heart problems - he has arthritis in his ankles and and of course it affects his knees and legs and often he can hardly balance to walk across the room. He does manage to potter around the garden which I am really pleased about
as that has always been his hobby and he enjoys collecting the fresh potatoes, beans carrots etc.

And how am I feeling? Well when my hip is really painful and I can't sleep at night because I just can't get comfortable I would agree to have the op tomorrow. Then I (sometimes) have a decent sleep and don't feel too bad and think that maybe I don't need to have it done yet!!

Then I wonder, if/when I do have it done, what arrangements will have to be made for Jack while I am in hospital and when I first get home. I am know it will all be sorted out as I am sure other people have to manage in similar circumstances. Thanks for asking Nancyo.:lvhrt:

Jamie - just noticed you have posted while I am typing this. Thanks for your good wishes too.

Jean,
Hi girl.... how am I doing? Well, lets see, you wanna compare you to me? LOL I think it's the same boat, just different area's of the ocean. I really hate it that your hip is rocking your boat like it is. I know how painful hips are because I'm a hippy too. I was trying to read your x-rays and of course on line it doesn't show the fine print but I got enough of a look to see that you have what we hippy's call a big ouchie!
When you get to see your OS, make that appointment girl and get it fixed! No backing out! You know as well as I do that it's not going to get any better and there are times it will flat out lie to you and make you think it's really ok.
I know you will think of some way to take care of Jack while your having surgery and doing your rehab. Our Lord does take care of those issues one way or the other. So lets now worry too much about that right now.
I'm so tickled to hear that he is getting out in the garden doing some things. That's really good for him Jean. His arthritis is bound to be very painful most of the time, and when he's puttering around the garden then his mind is on things other than his pain. The fact that he has you as a wife is a blessing to him.
I know you haven't heard yet when your appointment is. When you do find out, please let us know. I'll be praying for you to get that appointment quickly so you can start on the road to healing. Until then, use your cane and keep rested. Start gathering things you'll need while you're in hospital and when you get home. Make your list of foods that you can cook up in advance and just heat and eat. Common sense things. Lots of folks here that can give advice in that quarter.... then of course... we have the mistress of them all...the queen of the hen house and guardian of all we chicks.... I say we are so lucky to have your sister! Thank you Jean for letting us borrow her!
Let me hear from you often. I hope you have a pain free evening and a better tomorrow.
Blessings always...
Nancyo

Hi Nancy
Thanks for your words of wisdom

I am pleased to say my eye has improved a lot today and I am off to an appointment at the hospital Eye Casualty department tomorrow morning to get it checked out. My hip has also improved today probably because I have been resting more due to my eye problem (perhaps I don't need an op after all :hehe: - only joking).

You mention that Jack must have a lot of pain - but no - he assures me he never has pain in his legs at all in fact his legs/feet are mostly quite numb which Josephine and I have decided is arthritic neuropathy. He won't see anybody about it and says he can manage but he does have great problems with his balance and walking. Men! - but I love him really

Jean,
I know how much you love Jack. You've been so dedicated to him and shown an amount of loyality and love that most people never get in their lives. I'm not very smart, but I've decided that being married is the most difficult job in the world today!
I agree with you and Jo that his numbness is probably an arthritic nuropathy. I have a bit of something like that from the compression fractures in my spine. It doesn't really "hurt", but it drives me crazy with that constant numbness and tingling.

I am truly relieved that your eye is better today. I worried about that yesterday because I heard that you were having a problem, so I am very happy today that there is improvement. Please Jean, when you get home from the eye clinic today, please post and let me know what they say and how your doing ok?

LOL OK, OK! That Hip is going to start lying and tell you that it's alright huh? LOL
Don't you even go there! You know you are outnumbered with Jo and I and the rest of our forum watching to make sure you get proper care and treatment! When its time, you just trot right down to hospital and get yourself a new one! Between your Eye and your Hip and your Jack, we need to keep special track of you and know that your doing ok.... Post soon please? Praying that all is well with the eye for now.
Blessings to you always my sister's sister.
Nancyo

Hey Jean I guess when it rains it pours, right. I know those eye ulcers are painful. My mom had one and it hurt her like crazy. Im glad it feels a lil better today. I sure hope they will do your hip soon. I cant read xrays but noone here seems to think they look good. Take care of yourself. I hope you feel better soon. We all pulling for ya here !

:pnc::thmb:Feel better, Jean!!! Eye really hope you do! (a little play on words!)

Visit to the hospital was ok. Several tests with drops and then dye and a poke in each eye with a cotton wool
bud to check that my eye has not gone numb OUCH! and three people scrutinizing my eye through microscopes.
Another tube of cream to use for 10 days and a follow-up appointment to check eye is healing.

I was also told again that once this virus appears in your eye then it will keep re-occuring at intervals.
Nothing can be done to get rid of it. :nah:
