At age 74 was hit by motor bike and fractured rt hip.tried to heal it for 3 and a half, no union so replaced the hip. Now still pain while sitting semi lotus for half hour or more. Sitting on low stool is painful after getting up,and it goes away after a few steps.Still cannot do asana very well.and I do yoga daily, ride mountain bike daily and walk at least 1 kilometer daily

Hi Willow and welcome.......I am a knee so I wold be afraid to say anything.......Others will be along soo............Im so sorry thats sounds awful what happened to you........I hope you can get some answers to your questions........People here are amazing ............Good Luck to you and please keep us posted...............Blessings...............)

Welcome to BoneSmart, Willow. I would suggest you see a chiropractor and get him to assess you. You may have some sciatica or something similar. After 4 yrs, I doubt it has much to do with your THR especially after so long and being able to do the lotus - wow!

Plus, I am excited to welcome a member from Thailand! Our very first!

maybe I expect too much.My level of activity has dropped a lot since surgery, and my rt leg which was broken still is very weak I live like the local folks,so we eat sitting on the floor, and the toilets are made for squatting. This was a big one to overcome, and it still hurts to squatts. Getting up from the floor is difficult and I must use my arms to help.Any suggestions would be welcome

Hi, Willow....welcome to the forum! So glad you joined us.

I am REALLY impressed with your abilities! I do believe a couple of our members are doing yoga after their hip replacements....I think I recall Melissa (youngm is her online name) talking about it. Hopefully if they are out there, they'll see your thread and post.

As for getting up from the floor, that is difficult for all of us as we age. I recall one of our Australian members talking about how she could get up from the floor at some point after surgery, so I know it's possible.

But because of your accident, you may have other issues going on that will present challenges to the things you want to do. Do you have access to a rehab facility or gym where you could learn some exercises to strengthen your leg muscles?

My main exercise is bike riding and I ride 2-10 km daily. Walking is painful after 2 km.
My affected leg is smaller by 1 inch in circumference.
Bottom line is that I am so grateful to be able to do the things I do. The 3 months I waited and used cruches and a walked before I surendered to surgery. Ihad my replacement here in Chaing Mai Thailand

you could try going to www.dancerhips.com There are a bunch of dancers on there but also people involved in yoga. You may be able to find some information or someone to contact about ay questions you have concerning a THR and yoga.
