I will be having my THR on 2/4 and i went to a class at the local hospital yesterday. The nurse said you may never get into a bath again. Is this true? Is there a lot of reduced mobility ? I am an active 56 year old and this is not what i thought i was getting into. Are the precaitions for 3 months or forever ?????Thanks for your help!

Hi

I've personnaly not heard of that. I had a THR in 1983 and revisions since and always did get back to using the bath (not straight away, but don't think it was that long). I remember using a chair at the side of the bath with a bench seat over the bath to slide onto, then lowering myself down, the PT's and OT's gave me advice of when and how.

Unless there are some underlying reasons, which your surgeon will know about, I can't see why not - but I'm only speaking from my personal experience - Always listen to your team at the hospital and ask reasons why, they are there to help.

Hope this helps

Karen
