hmmm, I never thought of it before, but I wonder could hip joints be the cause of groin pain which feels like a hernia? Sometimes I get pain in the groin area on the side opposite my knee replacement leg, figured it was from hopping and walking unevenly when my knee was giving me lots of problems.

I asked my internal medicine doctor if there are ligaments or something in there that could be pulled, but I'm not sure she knew and she agreed I could have a hernia, even though it doesn't show. I'd had one on the right side when I was young and it does feel like that. It will hurt for several days, then get better.

I mentioned to my OS that I probably have a hernia now and he said let me check the hip and moved the leg once and didn't say anything, so I guess it was whatever it's supposed to be.

Oh boy! Doctors that don't know their anatomy!

The entire adductor mechanism arises from the bony structure known as the symphasis pubis and runs across the the top of the femur. Inflammation here will result in the kind of pain you describe. That inflammation will be caused by uneven gait and limping.

You can take some NSAIDs and/or see a chiropractor who uses accupressure which will ease the spasm in the muscles.

Thanks Jo!!! I hate when you go to a doctor and ask about something and they stare at you blankly. And this doc is one of the best I've known.

Pat, I got a similar pain in my opposite hip at about the 6 month mark....just like you worried it might be a bad hip. It wasn't. It went away and my hip xrays were fine. Just take it a little easy and take anti-inflammants. Things should improve.
