It has gotten much colder the last few weeks and I have noticed that I have sharp/shooting pains on both hips - 1 was replaced 10/06 and 2nd one done 2/08. So it has been almost 1 year. I was pain free for months. I also have low back pain and have to take Advil and heat for this and also have some meds. from the hip replacement surgery. After sitting with a heating pad and taking the meds. the back pain decreases.

Also have pain on my right knee (broke my patella back in the 80's - this could be arthritis?

Any ideas what could cause the pains I am getting.

One more thing - found out that I have psoriasis (everything comes on all at once to me ) and wonder if it could be psoriatic arthritis? Went to a dermatoligist and got creams for the psoriasis, last week.

Would appreciate any helpful advise

Hi, larafl. Welcome to BoneSmart.

It's a tad difficult to say much about your pains as you give so little detail. But on the surface there are a few things that come to mind.

Cold will always caused arthritic or implanted joints to throw up odd aches and pains. Since you've got his in both hips, my money's on that.

The patellar pain most certainly could be due to some traumatic arhthritis after the fracture.

Don't know too much a psoriatic arthritis, sorry.

Hi there,

I'm going through the same thing at the moment. It's been 14 months since I had a hip relplacement and about 6 months ago I got a slight pulling feeling in my thigh when I was asleep, once I moved my leg the pain went away. Since I have had my knee replaced, (opposite knee to hip Replacement) the pain has increased and mobility has dropped, I'm back to lifting my leg into the car as I did in the first few weeks. I too had months of it being great so this is really strange.

I have had xrays that say all is in tact but if things don't improve soon I will be following up with the OS. I will let you know what happens, but I agree with Jo in your case with both doing the same thing it is probably the cold getting to them.

Good luck, hope you feel more comfortable soon.

Chris :)
