    Welcome to Bonesmart!!

We have this very informative article on high tibial osteotomy.

I was initially referred to someone who performs this procedure, but after reading up on it, I declined. Eventually I just got a knee replacement.

Have you been offered an HTO because of your age? That seems to be what some surgeons do.

I would never consider having one, as the recovery is reported to be very painful, and an HTO is never a permanent fix. Sooner or later, you will need to have a knee replacement. Knee replacements can last for 30+ years, so there's no longer any need to fear multiple revisions, or to wait until you are "old enough" to have a knee replaced.

If you look in the Recovery section, you will see some prefix labels "High Tibial Osteotomy"
If you click on any one of them, you will get a search list of ALL the HTO recovery threads we have

Thank you, yes I was told about it several years ago, when this first started... but hasn’t been brought up (yet) I don’t want to do either of them, but I seriously can’t live like this for the rest of my life.. I will go and take a look at the forum... I had a co worker do it, and she said don’t, and then my cousins husband had it, and his knee is great... ugh can’t win for trying!

. . . and the other option is to seek a second opinion with an expert orthopedic surgeon.
