THR Hi! Post THR recovery

It is always delightful to hear your updates. Congrats on your 43rd anniversary! My hubby and I are also celebrating our 43rd this June. He has been so patient and supportive through all my struggles. I also have found that the more I participated in normal activities and moved in more normal ways, the better my range of motion got. Stretching always precedes any activity now. Although, I take my hat off to you about playing football (soccer, in my world.) I just don't have that much energy or stamina. Cheers!

:gaah: So sorry your back is playing up. Welcome to my world! I have chronic spinal issues so you have my condolences.

If it's a sprain rest and ice may help. Paracetamol if you can take it does take the edge off. Do you know an osteopath? They can really help with these issues and some also include acupuncture as part of the treatment.

Once this eases I would suggest finding a physio that specialises in spinal. They can help you build core stability to prevent this straining in the future.

Hope this eases soon!

Sorry to read this, JW. I sure hope you feel better soon. Stay in touch and let us know how you’re doing.

Thxs for that advice folks, iced for two days then hot last night . Much more mobile but still very painful , moving though. Can feel that the hip area is painful and achy which probably unsurprising, it’s all due to to the back strain I know , and I was doing so well ,such a shame I was doing so well ,no problermo I will have to rest for a week or so.

Good timing really because we are at a family wedding in France next week , so wouldn’t have been improving my incredible physique anyway.

Of course I will accept any advice on new hipsters back strains and very much appreciated.

Good luck all , hopefully doing betterer than moi.

Can I just say I adore your posts, even though I can’t understand most of your Brit speak? I need subtitles! But cheers to you from a 67 year old Yankee queen. My shaken and not stirred martini to you tonight! I hate brandy, gives me a wicked hangover. I wish everyone had your attitude and resolve!

Thank you Soho girl, when I said have a ‘ fine and dandy ‘ I meant only one !!! Not go on a bender. lol. !!
Even more mobile today but still painful , contemplating a visit to Gym , unfortunately no football tomorrow though bridge too far, I’ll just join the boys for a couple of cool ones afterwards.
Good luck S and fellow hipsters and a pain free weekend folks .

 Oh my stars... @JohnWilky
Just catching up and hate to hear your back is acting out.
I was doing so well ,such a shame I was doing so well ,no problermo I will have to rest for a week or so.
Certainly consider yourself sidelined until after the wedding, young man.

Don't go to the gym... heating pad, gentle stretches instead.
Mrs. Wilkey has likely said the same:) :-) (:
Behave, sir.
We want you painfree.

Cheers to you my friend.
:friends:
I really sympathise with the back pain...
miserable, for sure.
An adjustment as Jaycey describes might be useful in the future.
But we want you mobile and dapper for the nuptials...

Hope your weekend is Sweet!

Can I just say I adore your posts,
I agree. There is something very endearing about that ol’ JW. His posts make you chuckle and smile.
I learned through his posts that footy = football
Cool ones or A Pint = beer

@Sohowarrior You might enjoy this link, JW, you may also -

Take it easy on yourself so you can enjoy the wedding in France next week. You don’t want to miss out on some fancy footwork on the dance floor, JW. :happyfeet:

Emergency call from French France!!!! Unbelievably after over 12 month of pain free recovery, all of a sudden, and maybe due to a recent strained back (of which I recovered fairly quickly) I have sharp pain in new hip area on standing, especially this morning, gets easier as I stretch and move, but still about as bad as it’s been.
Any miraculous tips will be much appreciated, alternative is enjoying the wine and beer more than intended.
Incidentally beautiful sunny morning (wedding day) here in Saintes.
Sorry for moaning hipsters you know what I’m like.
Good luck everyone and continued recovering.

Sciatic nerve issues? The sciatic nerve runs very close to the hip area. Your back issues might be sciatica. I found gentle hamstring stretches from a seated position (toes pulled in toward the body) helped ease this. Start slowly and gently - your hamstrings may be very tight.

Thxs J for that I will attempt, I noticed yday that when I was walking downhill the hip was ‘nippy’ very painful, but uphill not as bad .? Wired.

When you get home you might want to find a good osteopath. They can manipulate your lower back to ease this. Acupuncture also helped me. You have my sympathies. Sciatic pain is just not fun!

I’m sorry you have to deal with this, especially while away from home at an event, JW.
I hope you will consider, Jaycey’s advice when you get back home. I wish you safe travels and speedy relief.
@JohnWilky

Thxs Folks, I will definitely get an appt with Osteo’ but at the risk of boring everyone (what’s different I’m hearing ) I’m not so sure it’s a sciatic issue, I did have that awful pain from S many many years ago post breaking a leg.

This is very different, it’s almost certainly hip related as the very very sharp pain on the outside of new left hip and occurs on placing my left leg down. Weirdly though it can just disappear for no particular reason, then reappear similarly, I just can’t pinpoint it.

Just to be more dramatic (here go’s) it is most painful the hip as been old or new, as bad that I limp (worse) very bad. This has been going on now for a week and can only blame my last gym session (last Monday pre France trip) as the blame.

I’m thinking I may need an x Ray to investigate ??? Which won’t happen quickly on our NHS.

Hoping that now we are home a visit to Osteo (a friend) and some rest, obviously full on in France so feet and no gym (well absolutely no chance of that) will allow things to get back to my new normal.

Anyone else had a similar set back some 15 month post replacement, hope not would appreciate any advice.

That’s enough about moi, best of luck all, btw I’m not complaining it’s my first real setback. Wishing everyone a good pain free recovery.

I’m sorry this continues for you and had to overshadow your trip to France. I think your idea of an x-ray seems like a good one, JW. It sounds like it really hurts when it acts up. A x-ray may be your first step toward discovering what the issue is. Is it possible to speak with your surgeon or the consultant, first, for advice?

Thxs L , during Covid many such procedures were taken by the private sector ( I,m sure you are familiar with the UK NHS system ) and we were extremely grateful for the exceptional service we received, as the waiting list on the NHS was growing by the day , so zero complaints other than I have received nil / none back up / check up since leaving the private facility.

So getting an XRay in the near future will be a non starter via the NHS , looks like I’m going to have to dig deep and pay ( hopefully via the surgeon did the op ‘ ) to get to the bottom of the problem

It’s a week ! since the first occurrence so I will take it easy ( no choice ) and see if things improve?

Are or has there been a similar 15 month post reaction to the replacement from fellow hippys .

Thanks for your time .
