I have talked to my PT yesterday and let her know that the tendons in the front of my shin were killing me! Last night my calf started to ache. I soaked in the tub and used a heating pad on & off through the night. This morning I couldn't bear any weight on my leg without severe pain. When I bent my toes the pain shot up my leg to my back.
I called my PT and told her and she said that I wasn't doing any exercise that could cause this type of pain.
My Dr is in surgery, I'm waiting for a call back. The pain has lessened as the day has gone on.
have any of you had this problem? My knee feels great, just the rest of me is falling apart!
Faith

I've had LOTS of calf aching....never could figure out where it came from.

Sorry you have a NEW booboo.....bummer.

I'm not a nurse by any means, Faith, but I would think you need to be sure this is not something serious. Even though your surgeon is not available, can you talk to another doctor or one of the nurses? You might need to get checked out. Does it only hurt when you stand on it or move the muscles or is there pain when you squeeze the calf or another area of the leg? Josephine?????

I had pains beneath my knee at the top of my shin, but that's all. The calf aches now and then, more then than now, but nothing like you describe. Glad you contacted the doctor. Stay on them until they get back to you! I'll be praying for you.

Just what I was going to ask, Jamie.

If ...
the calf is swelling
the calf is painful when squeezed with a moderate even pressure
feels engorged when standing
or changes colour such as a red or bluish hue

it needs looking at ASAP!

However, if the pain is located around the front of the shins and/or the Achille's tendon, then it is more like to be a sprain/strain/torn muscle fibre or ligament and can wait a day or two to get attention. In any case, rest is the answer here.

Both situations require elevation and icing.

Faith, I hope this post finds you feeling better. Please let us know how you got along today. ....Jamie

Faith, sending up prayers on your behalf. May God bless you with a painfree night of good sleep. Please let us know how you are doing and what the issue is/was. God bless,
Skeet

I have been totally out of commission all wkend. I messed up a tendon in my shin and stayed in my recliner, feeling sorry for myself since Friday.
When I was hit by the car in '86, they reconstrucyed my knee and tibia & ankle. The tendon on my shin, just below my knee always "popped up" when I flexed my foot. Since TKR, that has disappeared. But that is where the pain is.
I called my Dr. & explained, but he's not taking me seriously, I don't think he understands.
But, this too shall pass!
The highlight of my wkend was seeing my 5 month old grandson on YouTube drooling, baby dancing & gurgling to "Don't woory, Be happy"!
Ck it out.... go to youtube and search "janubaraie". It's adorable!

Glad you're better, Faith! TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!! I'll check out the doodlebug.

I just walked down to the bank and then to the PO.....two little hills involved.....by the time I got back to the office, I was walking like a troll!
OWIE on a Monday.

Oh my gosh, he is beautiful. I want one!

Being a grandma is the greatest! I recommend it highly.
Actually, Ethan is the main reason I finally got my knee done. I was sitting in a chair, holding him and realized I couldn't get up.
I want to be able to babysit and realized that I couldn't be left alone with him.
I am a relatively young grandma ( under 50ish, doug) and I want to run & play with this little guy!

faith, that's a wonderful reason to have this surgery!!! It will make life better for BOTH of you! How fun and exciting.

Faith, your grandson is gorgeous I watched all the videos. We also have a grandaughter, she is almost three now and an absolute darling. We could be biased I suppose? I am also looking forward to being able to babysit again on my own. I was able to play with her at her house the other night, I was following her up the hallway with her little grocery cart. Something I couldn't do before the surgery.

Enjoy Ethan.

Go for it Faith.(cool name by the way).
I'm just trying to survive, at 55, having a son in middle school, puberty, first girlfriend, and two hyper dogs.
No wonder I leave the house and play with a stuffed monkey...

Faith: I hope this finds you feeling better. After eading your commentary about being a grandma, I am getting all giddy. One of the reasons I decided to have my surgery this summer is so that I'd be able to be walk and play before my first grandchild arrives in October. They are definitely blessings, and I sure don't want to be one of those old grannies in a rocking chair! Now, if I can just teach my dog to not jump on my lap before the surgery.
Feel better; us Marylanders have to stick together!

They suggest having excited pets leave the home while we recover. yeah Right! And where are we to send them, kennel? Who's going to pay for that? I was worried about my dog. She is a 70 lb pup who still jumps up. Not usually on me but still..... I borrowed a walker even though I was on the cane by the time I came home. I was going to use it as a barrier to buy a little space between me and her if need be. She actually was very good and I didn't need it for her, but it was a good idea. I think sometimes though our animals know when we are injured and treat us respectively. Just an idea.

I know what it's like having kids in puberty. My oldest is 28, a boy, my daughter is 26. I have a 18 yrs old who is a freshman at Towson University. I don't hear from him too often because he is busy being an adult. (lol)
My youngest is 17, a jr in high school. The yrs from 12-15 yrs was pretty tough, with all the kids. Like I said, I'm still dealing with a few issues with my 18 yr old, know-it-all. The youngest plays tuba in the school marching band and also for the Baltimore Ravens marching band. He wants to be a Dr, so we are hoping for a music scholarship to help a bit with under grad.

And then there is Ethan. It's like starting over again, but this time someone else gets blamed for the mistakes! That's why it's great being a grandparent!
