This all started a few weeks ago when I fell asleep in my recliner. I like to sit with me knees drawn up, sort of like a grasshopper. I woke suddenly and my right leg, which had never had any pain, suddenly had this pain that felt like the sound that is made when you pull a big piece of velcro apart. Now, since then when I bend my leg to stand up it has the same pain. This pain goes away and is for just the second it takes for me to bend my leg. It has no pain at all when I am walking or standing, just when I bend it to stand up. Now, this morning my husband and I were in bed talking and I bent my leg and he asked what the sound was. It was my velcro knee. Until that time I thought that it was something I felt not something someone else could actually hear. This pain is on the outside of my knee, right by the knee cap. If I turn my leg inward when I bend it the pain is much less or it doesn't hurt at all. Has anyone else had this and Jo if you read this what do you think? My husband is after me to go back to the OS but I am just not up for it. Thanks for your help, Rowdy

Darned if I know Rowdy, I'm wondering if it might be scar tissue.

Sounds to me like an adhesion, Rowdy. How long has it been since you op? I would go see your OS if only for reassurance. I doubt whether there's anything much needs doing.

Thanks, I think it is adhesions too. I am going to put off seeing the OS though for a while, I have all the doctors I want for a while anyway. If it were a problem I would see him but it doesn't keep me from doing anything and only hurts when I bend it a certain way plus there is no swelling. My op was a little over five months ago, Jo. Thanks for responding. Believe me this is a hiccup compared to all that I have been through with these knees. Rowdy

Jo, does this mean that there are some adhesions that do not need or benefit from manipulation? Feel better Rowdy.

Just a question of degree, that's all. If it's a smallish area and caught early, it IS possible to free things up with good PT.

How late into recovery is one prone to adhesions? 6 Months later with no previous problem can one devlop? I'm not struggling with it, just wonder if I should look out.

Wish it were possible to say but truth of the matter is there is no time scale, only that it diminishes as time goes on. I'd say at 6 months with no problems you'd be pretty safe.

This is a very minimal problem, I was hesitant to even mention it but it does bother me at times. It is in a very small area on one side of my knee and it doesn't hurt all the time, just when I bend a certain way. Then it even has a sound that is like velcro being pulled apart. I was just shocked when my husband asked what the noise was, I really, up until then thought that I had heard it inside my body, kind of like the pain before I had surgery, I would get all kinds of noises that only I could hear. I was just amazed that he heard it and he then started in on me to get it seen to. I swear he is scared I am going out of commission and he will miss my cooking, lol. I have noticed that when I walk a lot, go shopping and really work the leg extra that it goes away for a few days. So I am going to get back into exercising more and ride the bike a bit more. By the way, have I told you guys you are the greatest in a while? Well, you are. Thanks Rowdy
