OK Whenever in doubt I have always turned to the bonesmart crowd. I just had my 1 year anniversary and everything has been going really well. I have had a mark on my lower calf on the right leg - the replacement side- since the beginning of June. It was the size of a dime, not round. At first I thought it might be the beginning of a vvericose vain. It got better at night so I kinda of ignored it. Around the first of July I noticed it increasing in size and decided to try some neosporin at night. Seemed to work for a while. Shrunk it and soothed it. OK so now the little stinker has grown to the size of coffe cup top and it is "puffing out" a bit (hubbys words) It was very warm this am but seems to have evened out. I had the neosporin on it last night but it made absolutely no difference. Everything functions well and is only a bit uncomfy... no shooting pain or anything. If it was on the other leg I wouldnt give it a second thought but ...

So here are the questions I was looking for help with:
If it is some type of skin infection do I need to be concerned about my knee and getting an infection in the kr at a year out?
Do I see my OS, my GP or a dermatologist?
Should I continue trying the neosporin or see a Dr?

I have no toher marks and we dont have poison ivy up here in my area and I really havenet been in the woods. It really didnt spread just slowly increased in size and only in that area. Back in June when I first saw it it seemed to diminish in warm water but no longer.

UGHHHHH .... Good thing... no real pain! Just sort of funny looking' Any one have any suggestions or similar experiences?

Well first, calm down! You knee is all tucked up nice and cosy inside - um - your knee and a skin problem is unlikely to affect it.

First go and see you own doctor and then a dermatologist if he thinks it's necessary. I'm not a skin person so cannot offer an opinion, I'm afraid. Could be something as simple as a spot of eczema.

Marianne,
If it was me I would call my GP and go from there, if GP saids OS then I would go. If GP saids Dermo then that is where I would go. After watching it leave then come back bigger each time I guess I would just think God was trying to get my Att.!!!!!!!

Thank you!!! I couldnt remember how long we had to be careful with the knee and infection. I thought I was past that milestone so thats great news. I have cruddy jury duty this week and next so I will talk to the gp and try to a get a late apt later in the week. I have been trying to ignore this for a while now but this am it really got my attention so thanks for your quick responses.... off to call the gp and hopefully get in this week if not next... timing is actually good... I need a physical for my job as well so I can kill two birds with one stone.

THANKS to all you wonderful bonesmarties and best of luck with all each of us is dealling with!

Marianne

Marianne,

Yes, please do go see your GP. It sounds like eczema like Jo thought.

My daughter struggles with it and it does come and go. Usually a good lotion will help it go away. We lotion her down well after every shower. Hot water dries out the skin. So watch the temperature of your showers/baths.

Not sure if yours is the same, but your GP is the best place to start.

Blessings,

Hey Alaskan Im sure it wil be nothing but please let us know what he says. Im curious now. I hope it all goes away and you can continue with your great recovery....Best to you....

If you can't get to the Dr. within the week, my suggestion is Hyrocortisone cream of the highest % you can get........
I have had issues with rashes like this that come from stress.
Good Luck!

Yep--head off to the primary care physician--can't hurt, might help. I think we mus always be watchful for infection. It might not be likely to get in there, but if it does, it's a real problem. Therefore, I am opting for watchful diligence.

If it is warm seems to me you have to go see your GP and I would do it right away. I was going to ask if you have a cat and maybe have ring worm. You are having for sure a reaction to something. Does it appear to have a red dot in the middle?

I don't think I would wait. If it is itching or burning you might want to try a soda paste applied to it. Mix Baking Soda with water form a paste and put it on there. It will or should draw out the heat and stop the itching, if it is itching.

Do let us know what it is.

Hey Marianne, I wondered if you found out anything or how was it doing today.....Hope everything is ok...Please keep us posted. Good Luck.

Hi! Sorry it took so long but we got busy painting (thats another story)

Anyway. Was able to see the gp on Wednesday am. I needed a school physical anyway so I asked her while I was there. She said it looks like it is related to the fall I took back in the beginning of june. I totally wiped out and I did very well protecting the knee but lousy on all else. Not sure if I buy it but will follow her directions. I did fall really hard and was black and blue all over my ankle and calf... fell on the new block patio extention over some wall blocks. Black and blues went away finally about 2 weeks ago. Ughh. She said it looks like it may be from trauma and them loss of circulation tothe area but not to worry try some cream. She gave me a prescription that I have used before for eczema. Holpefully this will work. Also ice might be helpful.

Anyway... its still there and thanks for all the suggestions. I may try the baking soda one tonight.

Anyway.... We painted our living/dining room over the last few days and even the upstairs hallway.... high walls and cathedral ceilings and I climbed up and down on the ladder and my knee did not hurt!!!! I realized yesterday while I stood painting it didnt hurt! It was a moment I thought would never happen! It does get better!

Thanks again!

Wow, how cool is THAT to be able to do your painting project with no pain!!! Hooray! Better watch out, though. Now that you've proved you can, that chore list will grow and grow!
