Hello,

I'm Gertie and have just joined the forum.

I found an advert for Bonesmart in my local hospital while I was waiting to see my consultant.

I had a total hip replacement in 1998 when I was just 29. Unfortunately I had it removed in September of this year due to an infection.

I spent eight weeks in hospital as sadly the hip decided to disintegrate on me, which resulted in an abscess and that turned into a nasty infection which ate everything in it's path - bone, muscle, even the hip itself !!!

It's really strange having a leg with no hip in but I'm getting by and still smiling :p ...

Gertie

Was that the Royal Hospital, Sunderland and were you in hospital in June this year? If so, we might have met!

Welcome neighbour! Welcome to the BoneSmart family!

Hi, Gertie and welcome.

You sure have gone through a lot. The fact that you still smile tells me that you must be a wonderful person. This is the right place for wonderful persons.

Hi Gertie,
Greetings from Bangor Co. Down, sorry to hear you have had a bad time but you have come to the right place for plenty of support.
Ronnie :thmb:

Hello Josephine - I was in Sunderland Royal but not in June. I was in wards 43 and 44 from September to November. I was so glad to get home !!! Isn't it a small world that you too are from Sunderland.

Hello Teejay - thanks for your lovely comment. I figured that smiling and humour were, and are, the best way to cope with it.

Hello Ronnie - thanks too for your lovely comment.

Gertie
xx

Hi Gertie, I too was in Sunderland Royal ward 44, 7 weeks ago for a BTKR, I wish you loads of luck with your revision, so sorry for all the troubles you have had. Welcome to the BoneSmart family, you will get loads of love and support here. X

Welcome Gertie,
Wow you have had way more than your share of trouble. Enough already. Hope it is all good news from here. Are you able to walk without a hip?
judy

Hello Gertie,

Smiling is definitely good. I've always admired wonderful people who are able to smile when things get rough. I'm so happy that you found this site; plenty of information, hugs and support available for every situation.

You are in good company.

Hello Dawnie - another person who knows the Sunderland Royal. I came onto ward 44 on Sept 24th so it looks like we were there at the same time. I was down the bottom end of the ward in side room 2.

Hello Judy - I'm pleased to say that I am able to walk without at hip though I am on crutches as I can't put much weight on my leg. I tend to walk on my toes. It's a really strange feeling not having a hip as I can do things that I've never done before - like kiss my knee...

Hello Teejay - I decided there were only two ways to go - I could cry and become depressed, but that wouldn't solve anything or smile and makes jokes. At times it was hard but I kept on smiling.

xx

Wow, can you believe we were there at the same time, I hope you got your pain meds, they didnt bother giving me any all night on the night of my op, there was ructions about it. But I survived.
Hope you are keeping as well as physically possible, and they get you 'put right' ASAP. XXX

Hi, Gertie....welcome to the BoneSmart family. We have lots of caring folks here who are available almost any time of day or night to provide help and support. We cheer each other's successes and give that little boost needed to get through a rough patch. It is a great group of folks who really KNOW what it means to have hip or knee surgery because they have lived it. I'm so glad you decided to join us.

Hello again Dawnie - I'm pleased to say that I got all my meds thanks. A different story though when I was on ward 43 shortly after I was admitted. It was night shift...
I love a bit of gossip so you'll have to message me and tell me what happend. I've got some tales to tell about 44 as well.
As for putting me right, that's a different story I'm afraid. :sigh:
xx

Hello Jamie - many thanks for your kind words.
