My name is Myrto,I am 26 years old (female) and I had my LTHR surgery 10 weeks ago(June 30th).
I was diagnosed with JRA (juvenile rheumatoid arthritis) at the age of 3 but I 've lived a very active (more than normal:) ) life since then. When I was 16-17 years old my left hip started to hurt but it was not a big deal till last year; one day (after miles of walking) I wasn't able to walk anymore. Next days were much better but gradually I was in more and more pain and I could actually hear a cracking noise from my hip every time I stepped on my left leg. I had x-rays and my doctors said that I had to have THR asap despite my young age.
I wish I would had known about this forum before my surgery since I was really scared and freaked out; thought that no young people have it done and that I wouldn't be able to live a normal life again!
Things are going so great already that it's hard to believe!I am able to walk, go out at nights, go shopping and ride my bike again.
I just want to say to everyone who is about to have a surgery to expect major improvement and don't have any second thoughts about it! :thmb:
I can reply to any of your questions regarding my recovery-I can totally understan how scared and depressed some of you may feel before the surgery or even the first weeks after it.

So, hello to everyone and thank you all for this great group!

Myrto,

Thanks for the encouraging words. You have been through a lot for such a beautiful young woman. Amazingly, you seem to have grace and peace flowing from you. What a blessing it is to have such a positive attitude and willingness to help others. Hope you continue to improve and no more surgeries are necessary with your debilitating disease of JRA. Best wishes for a life full of joy and happiness!

Blessings,

Myrto
That is so sweet of you to post for all those in the difficult stages. I'm glad everything is better for you.
You are beautiful inside and out!!

Welcome Myrto! How lovely to hear from you! And I love your part of the world, having visited your country a number of times!! I really admire your courage and resolve! Your young , active.....now enjoy your life!. You have so much to look forward to!!! (:)0)

Thank you all for you replies! It is so strange to see that so many people are having the exact same thoughts I had before surgery - strange and encouraging at the same time!

Tracie-I used to get mad to people telling me "everything is gonna be ok" cause I thought they had no idea of what I was going through. But since I've known, I can tell you for sure that everything is going to be ok! Still, I think it's completely normal for you to freak out and don't let anyone tell you otherwise :)
Judles-Hope you liked Greece! I 'm currently living in The Netherlands, where I'm studying to obtain my master degree but I had my surgery in Athens,Greece. Actually, I've been back to The Netherlads since last week and even though I was scared of being on my own for the first time after the surgery, everything is going great!:thmb:

Love the Netherlands, too, Myrto! You have such a great attitude!!! And I am amazed how you've bounced back! Keep up the great recup!!! ((;0)

Hey and Welcome im glad to hear you are doing so well......Thats real inspirational story.........Congrats to you.........Keep up the good work.............)

Hi, Myrto!! Welcome to the BoneSmart family. As you have figured out if you've checked out some of the threads, we are a very diverse group age-wise and location-wise....but we ALL share your fears and feelings. It IS amazing, isn't it! I'm glad you found us.

I hope you continue to post some of your milestones. Even the simple things that you can now do without pain give hope and comfort to others who are still facing their surgeries.

We seem to get a fair number of young people on the forum who need hip or knee replacements. They REALLY appreciate hearing from someone who is near their age....with their whole life ahead of them....who has successfully had the replacement.

So....great to hear you're doing so well. You're part of our family now. Let us hear from you when you have time!

Hello, Myrtle! You're a star lady!

Hi Myrto! Its so good to have another 26 year old on here (Although of course I love everyone regardless of their age!...) There's another young female on here Melissa who had her hip done last year as well! It was so disorienting and frustrating starting this process because we are in such a minority due to our age. I joined other forums where I was received hesitantly or rudely...I think people assumed I was a drama queen looking for attention. Of course we know that is SO not the truth! I'm glad we have a group of us on here now...and thank you for posting on here even though you are now post-op. I plan to stay on here as well in hopes of others like us finding this site. Just because we had nowhere to turn doesn't mean others should be left hanging too! I read your reply to my post...aren't parents saints? I could not have gone through this process without someone there to hold my hand and also put me in my place when I was being cranky! I'm still in the midst of the first week of recovery but once things settle down I will be sure to ask you any questions I think of!

Hi<

I'm 30 and hearing your story was a soothing feeling as is just browsing this wonderful forum. I hope you continue to do great and I am anxiously awaiting to get to the other side and start recovery (surgery is Oct. 22nd).

Gosh, I feel positively old at 35. My new left hip is 10 days old and I have to agree with Myrto and Shugaplum - its great to be out and this forum is a lifesaver. Everyone said I should just go for it - and they were right.

Hope everything went well today Tracie, I also was thinking of my little one (9 months last week) when I signed up for it, but now am so glad I did it - for me as well.

Ziuta, you are so doing the right thing and you'll be there before you know it.

Slightly worried I'm doing too much, but its so exciting to be able to walk, to be able to bend (up to 90 degrees of course) and generally feel good.

Hey

Thats a relief that someone around the same age as i will b when i have my op has recovered so well. I'm looking forward to bike riding again thats for sure. i was nearly 18 when i was told i needed a double hip replacement.. i was shocked.

But its so good to know that, just like you said, so many people out there are having the exact same thoughts and feelings as you when they had theirs done. :D

You're such an inspiration sweety :)
