I haven't visited in a long while. I'm seeing my surgeon on August 15 and we’ll be setting a surgery date. Just wondering if any of you went through this with heart problem? I have stable heart failure and I'm scared! I've been cleared by my cardiologist for one knee at a time . Just wondering if there's any stories you can share? Thanks!

Well I have a heart problem and didn't even know it at the time of both my THRs. If your cardiologist has cleared you for surgery I really would not worry. They will take your heart issues into account and monitor you carefully.

One thing you might want to ask is about your medication. Are you on any blood thinners?

I second Jaycey's comments. Although I didn't have heart failure, I did have bouts with irregular heartbeats that were ongoing when I had both my knees replaced and the surgeon and my cardiologist assured me they would just monitor me a little more closely and make adjustments as needed. So many people these days have heart issues, as long as your cardiologist is comfortable with the surgery, then try not to worry about potential problems.

I had a heart attack 5 years before my TKR.
I chose to go to an NHS-funded specialist knee and hip fitting hospital. They didn't have an ICU ward to call on in the unlikely event of a cardiac "happening".
They had a limit of 3 years, so they agreed to fit my new knee.
So I'd suggest your choice of hospital has an ICU to call on, just in case.
