I had a hip replacement in July 2007. It took a while, but I was doing great. Then around the first of May I started have pain in my butt and my thigh. I thought it was muscle pain since I had not been very active for such a long time. So needless to say I kept going. But, I still have pain so it was not my "old" muscles - I am going to be 64. Even when I sit for awhile the pain is back again just like before the surgery. I think I might have twisted it or picked up something too heavy. I go to the doctor for my year checkup in July, but I wonder if I should call and get a appointment sooner. Has anyone had this problem?

Mariteri,
I Am 50 And Had Mine Done This February. My Suggestion Is To Call The Doctor Immediately And Talk To His Nurse. Also Josephine Will Be On And Will Help Answer Some Of Your Questions. I Have Been Having Some Referred Pain In My Upper Hip From How My Pt Describes It. But, I Am Also Exercising And Think That Is What Might Be Causing It. It Is Always Good To Ask Questions. Mariteri, I think it more likely you have got yourself sciatica than anything to do with your hip. The sciatic nerve runs very close to the hip joint so it is often difficult to tell the difference. But if you have been inactive and sitting a lot, then that is the more likely answer. Still go and see your doctor sooner if it is very painful but you've had this pain for 5 weeks and your appointment is 3-6 weeks away - depends how much discomfort you are suffering whether you want to bring it forward or not.
