Hello everyone-I'm new to the site. I'm 7 weeks THR. OS relaxed my restrictions last week. I've been making good strides with physical therapy exercises and pain has not been a major problem last couple of weeks. Yesterday I did a session with PT (gait training, ankle weight on op leg, some stretching) plus followed my routine stand/laydown exercises at home, walked 4600 steps and went to bed pain free. I slept on op leg side and felt fine. I woke up in the middle of the night with such pain in that leg (felt like day after surger "10" pain) and had to use my walker to go get ice pack and heating pad. I couldn't straighten the leg and only the painkillers made a difference. Today I'm still sore and gimpy. I have a feeling I may have overdone it and want to take the day off today. Should I get back on the 'horse' right away or give it a short break?

Re: I thought I was all better

Welcome to BoneSmart, leosmom. I've moved your post into a thread of its own so it doesn't derail the other member's thread and also so you get answers for yourself.

My recommendatio is - REST! You should never exercise on a joint that is all flared up. Rest, elevate, ice (or heat but ice should be better) and pain meds. Get it about 75% under control before you try again.

Hi, Leosmom! So glad you found us here at BoneSmart. I hope by now you are icing and lying down to get that pain and swelling under control. Please post any time you have a question or concern or even if you just want to chat a bit with people who know exactly what you're going through because they have BEEN THERE!!

Hi and welcome Leosmom. I had a hip replacement last June. At about 4 weeks I did what you just did . Things were feeling pretty good and I overdid it. I remember coming down the stairs and having pain that was worse than anything right after surgery.
I agree with Jo, rest . Take a few days off or as long as it takes to feel a lot better. Then go back to doing things slowly. It is so easy to overdo it.
Let us know how you are feeling.

Hi Leosmom, Welcome! And heed the advice! Slow and steady wins the race!!! :)

Thanks everyone. I love this site. I am icing and resting today. I see PT tomorrow and will discuss my routine with them then.

Hope you feel better by tomorrow. Glad you're taking it easy for a bit.
