Hi, I was just wondering if anyone else had their incision closed with glue? On both my TKR's, My OS used glue to close the incision (of course their were all the several layers of interior stiches) but no staples or stiches. It makes a very neat scar with no leakage, oozing or even no tenderness or itching. Just wondering if anyone else had this done.

No but they did use that on my my sons Head it would have looked terrible on his forehead but now its hard to see i bet your scare will look great....Sounds like he did a great job.....Im happy for you !!!!!!!!!!!!...)

That is what my OS did too---I think that the knee specialists tend toward the newer techniques. I had the MIS surgery and my incision was glued--there is no way that I would have allowed anyone to put a bunch of staples in my leg---why make the scar more unsightly?

I turned down my OS of 11 years because he did such a long incision---6 inches and he used staples. I went to a knee specialist who does only knees and got the surgery that I wanted and now you really cannot see my scar at all unless you get close.

Not on my knee....but on my head when the corner of a file cabinet drawer jumped up from the bottom of the file cabinet and hit me in the head!! (okay...I fell and hit the corner of the drawer).

No, I had all the ugly unsightly staples. 30 in all on both legs. The left scar is around 13" or so. Guess they had to cut more to do the extra work required in straightening the leg. Took a lot of punishment these last 5 months.

When I went in to do the repair job where the couple of staples were askew, they applied the iodine glue stuff around the area to get the steri-strips to stick better. Not within the scar. Said they shouldn't come off again until I take them off in 10 more days.

My son Daniel did have a super glue job done to his forehead when he took a spill in the parking lot of the skating rink and had a little stone lodged in it. Can hardly see it now.

Guess I'll be stuck with these ugly knees for a while longer. The right one has improved but it's still very noticeable. Oh well, I usually don't wear anything above the knee anyway, so no one will see but Rick, me and the children. Oh yeah...and the folks at the pool. Most of them have the same scars, so they don't care.

I've not had a knee replaced, but was glued after my hip, my cervical spine and my thoracic spine fusion. I have not been stapled yet. We'll see what happens on Oct 1st. I'll have 2 surgeons so one I don't know . I don't know who will close the incisions either.

I had the staples--not glued. My surgeon has such a wonderful reputation in our area--does lots of innovative things--smaller incisions in general (does MIS on hips-incision in the front) and computer assisted surgeries--but no glue for knee surgery. My healed scar looks great and is not very noticeable at 6 weeks--I expect it will be hard to even detect in a few months---although a scar on my knee is not very important. I LOVE my new knee and already my "baby new knee" has given me back mobility without pain. I'm a very happy woman!!

Skygirl, I guess you & I are the only glued knees. I am surprised .because here in No. Ca. where I live most of the OS and knee clinics all use the glue. I did not have the MIS but I do believe the glue is so much easier and the scar looks great.

As I recall there have been many over the last couple of years.

Yes--my outside incision was closed with glue. I love it. No staples to come out, no stitches. I have never once worried about it letting loose. I really like it. It didn't even have to be covered that long. I have had no problems whatsoever!

Hi, I had glue used to close my incision 12 weeks ago and it looks great. I was glad I didn't have to worry about staples leaving marks. I actually have little parts of my scar that are already fading away.

Staples don't usually leave marks. That's the beauty of them. Look at this scar. 3 months past and can barely be seen

My incision was closed with glue and it is healing very nicely. I was also able to shower a week after surgery which was also a bonus.

OOOOO..Jo...your incision looks great. I had staples as well. I have no staple marks either. The top of my incision on the top part of my leg goes almost directly over my knee...above that spot my incision is a little spready..the rest looks likes Jo's. :thmb:

That's my sister's THR scar, Barb! :hehe: :hehe:

Pats scar looks fabulous! I can't believe it's only been three months on that scar!
My goodness her surface healing power is remarkable! Hope she's feeling as well as that incision looks! Incredible!!! All I can say is WOW!
Blessings to her!

Well of you look closely, it's her black skirt draped across the top right hand corner of her piccy! The angle on the other side is her behind!

This is the full pic (though she'll never forgive me for posting it!)
