Bilateral THR Gretel post op<

Thanks @Mojo333. I’m much the same. Still improving in the pool. I feel I’m back to fighting fit in water :loll:
Wow one year anniversary. That’s brilliant! Congrats!
We are off cruising next week. Very excited! 17 nights cruising around the top of Australia and then spending six days in Western Australia before flying home.

Oh, how exciting. I do wish I were going.
I need a change of scenery.
I'm still having some low back issues but I do way too much mist of the time. Hips are great but I will pursue the other with OS at appointment in few weeks.
Have a blast in your trip. You deserve some fun.r:roseshwr:

Great news on your progress in and out of the water :yay:
Your cruise sounds wonderful! You'll have to update us upon your return.
It's hard to believe you're coming up on seven months already.
May it only get better and better.
Hugs to you and safe travels!
@Gretel

Have a great time @Gretel! We have just come back from a very sunny week in France where I walked miles and climbed steps without any problem. We also drove all the way from home to the French/German border (via the Channel Tunnel where the car goes on a train) and apart from being a little bit stiff I survived and enjoyed the journey. It's great to be active again.

@Gretel
:wave: my bilateral pal.
I am guessing you are still cruising and I'm so so jealous.
Hope you are having a blast!:SUNsmile:

Hi :capn:
Just thinking....its been seven months now for the Fab Four. Amazing how time flies.
Hope your cruise is everything you dreamed of.
Looking forward to hearing about it upon your return.
Hugs to you :friends:
@Gretel

Just wanted to say:hi:.
Almost 8 months out...
Hope your trip went well and life is better than presurgery days!:loveshwr:

@Gretel how are you doing these days? I'm really wanting to find other double hippies to talk with so glad I found you. I had both hips done on May 8, mini posterior. I had low blood pressure as well (50/30) as extremely low hemoglobin in the hospital. I also had the shakes so bad the first few days. They gave me a blood transfusion in the hospital which brought my hemo up to 7.5 but even after release I had the shakes. My doc said it was from the low BP and slight anemia. It's been 12 days since surgery and I think I'm doing pretty good. I eat everything I can find with iron in it-spinach, raisins, blackstrap molasses. l'm still taking oxycodone twice a day with advil between. I'm walking 600-700 steps a day (in circles in my back yard LOL) with my walker. A physical therapist came over the first week and pulled my leg straight up in the air as far as I could. She told me my hamstrings were tight and proceeded to do a deep tissue massage on the back of my leg. It felt good at first but OUCH! the next day was frightening. I let me doc know and he told me no more therapy til he saw me, that I should just walk. My first surgeon (canceled 2 days before surgery due to an accident) doesn't even prescribe PT, just rest and walking. Like @Mojo333 said, we have all got to be good to ourselves :).

:hi: @Storygirl
We need to set you up a recovery thread.
Bilaterals are a tough breed.
Your surgeon sounds unusually amazing! :) :-) (:That kind of PT is not needed.
Do you need the moderators help setting up your thread?
What would you like to call it?
You will be under bilateral classification so folks can stop by.
And we can give you some recovery guidelines!:tada:

Hi @Storygirl still very early days for you. I thought I should have been progressing so much faster at that stage. Everyone (especially @Mojo333 ) told me to not expect so much. They were all so right and your body needs to heal the way it does and can’t be rushed.
Our holiday was wonderful. A bit of a bummer it’s over. I walked quite a bit. Still getting sore in the thighs and needing to sit down but I think I managed pretty well. I started back at aquarobics yesterday and overdid it. Having today out of the pool and I’ll go a bit slower tomorrow.
I was actually more stressed about my vision than my walking while we were away. My double vision is happening more often :groan:

Ooh I meant to mention I was really surprised that I didn’t set off the scanners at the docks or airport. I was sure my hips would set them off.

Really?
Haven't had the opportunity to check that out yet.:umm:
I'm glad you had a great trip!

Does anyone have a clue what's causing the double vision/vertigo episodes?
Don't guess could have anything to do with inner ear stuff as you are a water baby? (I love to swim too)

I worry for you to fall! Please do be careful.:praying:

Thanks @Mojo333 I’m really careful. The last time I saw the eye specialist they said it was my glasses cause they are multi focal and very strong. I tried contacts and seemed a bit better for a while but now I’ve had the odd episode of double vision wearing contacts and even without anything. Don’t know if it’s related to the vertigo or not. I haven’t had any vertigo for a while apart from a quick episode on the plane. They aren’t happening at the same time. I’m going to see a different eye specialist this time. The other didn’t seem too fussed about it. He should try it sometime!

It's amazing how its no big deal if it isn't happening to you.:shrug:

Hope you have a great week!

Hi Gretel,
So nice to hear you enjoyed your vacation. Sorry you're dealing with some double vision.
That has to be a little frightening and an annoyance. I hope you find answers soon.
Best wishes for a good week!
@Gretel

Well it looks like I’m heading for more surgery. The specialist is doing blood tests to rule out disease but looks like it’s most likely weak muscles causing my double vision. I was hoping this year would be surgery free :sad:

Oh my stars...eye surgery?
My sister works as a tech for an eye doctor? Do they have a name for your condition? I'd love to quiz her about it.

I know that has to be scary too, but isn't it amazing that they can fix things.
When will you have it done?

Please keep us posted as I will wonder.:friends:

@Gretel, sorry to hear about your eyes and hope you can get it sorted quickly. I think I would find that more difficult to cope with than a poorly hip.

I have ventured onto the Other Joints area of BoneSmart and also face more surgery, this time on my hands - not sure if the left or the right needs it most.

Aww, Gretel, I'm so sorry, sweetie.
I'll definitely remember you in prayer. Please stay in touch.
As always, we're here for you.
Hugs :console2:
