Hello everyone,
I have been a lurker also, but decided to join.
My THR was on April 21st and I still ice with my leg elevated after exercising and walking. It's a nice time to sit back relax.

If I have questions where do I ask them?

Hi geo - and welcome to the family! I moved your post into a thread on its own as new posts tend to get lost in the middle of a big thread.

If you have questions, right here is the place to post them! You can keep to your own thread if you like, or start new threads now and again. It's all cool!

Welcome Geo. Ask away. Everyone is always willing to help with any question you have. Yes you should relax, join in we would love to here from you!!!!!!!. Sounds like you are doing well.. happy to hear that............Post anytime...

Welcome, Geo! You're in good, supportive company & we're really glad to have you! :D

Hi, Geo! Glad you decided to become an official BoneSmartie. I'll look forward to reading your posts as you continue on in your recovery. Ask as many questions as you like!!! That's what we're here for.

Hi Geo, that makes you about 10 weeks post surgery. I'm 9 weeks today. For me THR has been really straightforward. Recovery is going well and I'm not having any real issues which is great.

How are you going? Any milestones worthy of note.....?
I think its really worthwhile keeping a track of all the things that we can now do that we couldn't do before surgery. I ran up my friends REALLY steep driveway yesterday. I didn't mean too, I was just in a hurry to get to school and I was running late. It wasn't until I got to the top that I realised that I'd actually ran up them! I was rather impressed because previously I used to struggle to walk up it!

As for questions ask away, we'll all give our opinions, and experiences, important to remember however that everyone here has had different reasons for surgery, different ages, medical conditions , history etc.....so please don't feel discouraged if some are doing better than you feel you are. Every one is different, and will recover at different rates.....having said all that I think there are "norms" and it is encouraging to note that others have had the same experiences that you have.....Its nice to know that there are people out there who "get it" ,whatever "it" might be.....

Looking forward to sharing the journey ,
Rachel

Welcome, Geo! We love newbies! Welcome aboard and ask away!!! :)

This is such an awesome place . I find everyone's comments very enlightening.
I am a 63 year old female and who would of guessed that the pain pre-surgery was bone on bone joint!
Recovery is going good. At 4 wks Dr. told me to give up everything . I was actually incredulous. All of a sudden it's ok to bend, drive, no more pillows,etc...
However, at 10 wks I still have what feels black and blue below and to the right of the anterior rt hip scar. It is not always the same intensity. My PT tells me it's muscle. I am somewhat numb in the same area sometimes.
One more-does the hard scar tissue at bottom and to the side of the scar go away after time? I massage every day.

Welcome Geo,
There is a wealth of knowledge here, and I provide very little, but,if you need a smile maybe can help with that.haha This is a very caring bunch and they will try to provide any info you may seek.Welcome again, and happy healing!

Muscle stays sore for some time so don't fret about that. Numbness in the skin occurs because the surgeon inevitably has to cut through some of the littler nerves as he makes his incision. They will repair eventually but can take some months as nerves heal slowly.

As for the scar, it will soften and relax in its own time whether you massage it or not. You're only 4 weeks remember and it can take 4 months for all that to settle down. In 6 months you'll probably have a job finding the scar at all!

:D Thank you. I find the whole process amazing.
One correction, I'm 10 weeks out. All a in all I'm pleased with healing, just get a little impatient at times.

Don't worry, Geo....we all got a little impatient at one time or another. It's actually not a bad thing if you overdo it a little...you just cut back for a while and then you're back on that steady path to recovery.

OK I need to vent this anger. I went to my doc Monday to ask him to defer my return to work for 1 month which would put me at 16 weeks out. My job is very physically demanding, squatting, twisting, reaching, standing up to 5 hours, lifting heavy weights, pushing 250lbs and during a 24 hr period maybe 2-3hrs sleep. Let alone an emergency on board during flight or on landing requiring more weight-oxygen tanks, moving a person, etc or opening a 100lb door.
So doctor says, "some people run a triatholon, I think your problem is psychological". I'm a 63 yr old female mother of 6(no one's married yet-no grandchildren) The nerve of that doctor. Now my PT has fun with the psychological thing.
He wrote on the absence form "patient complains of some soreness and swelling".
I guess in his eyes I'm a wimp and definately not up to his standards. Chose this place because they developed the porous-coated cementless implants for hips and knees.
Ok.
Thank you for listening. I needed to get that out so that I stop thinking about it and can sleep.

Aaww, geo - that's horrid. Surely, isn't it between you and your employer when you return to work?

Ultimately yes. However he has to release me. I know that the Peace Corps requires a THR to be out 6mths (I'm in the application process).
Lived in Surrey County(Deepcut) 1984 and 85. Had a Brit baby there.

Geo your are so not a wimp. Oh my goodness that is so crazy !!!!!I hope you slept well went you got that off your chest. You can do that anytime, thats a sad story. Take care try not to go back till you are ready. Does sound like a very physical job. I couldnt do it...lol....Hope it all works out for ya........

GEo
You are definately not a wimp. I'd like to see your doctor do your job for a few days including the home job. I know I would have a very difficult time keeping up with you. Take all the time you need.
