hey i've had one of those. it was not my last surgery but the one before. the last was a half spica. and before that they went to both feet. good idea for them because i was a wiggle worm. and i loved getting all the cotton off and finally not itching. my mom had it to a sience when it came to a bedpan so they didnt have that odor, but it would smell quite sweaty. like i sid jo your my hero. you are the kind of nurse that made me want to be one so much.

Yes, of course - that image shows a child with only one hip affected. Most of my patients were bilateral CDHs. We had a surgeon who specialised in paediatric orthopaedics and we'd do 2-3 of those little ones every other week (he only had an operating session once a fortnight). He and I developed a really good working relationship - like he did his thing and I did mine!

you never stop amazing me. you are the only person i've met that even knew others with bilat dysplaia, even those with unilat always seemed to have it fixed so young. i'd love to hear more of your experience have you met many that are like me have had all the work just putting off the total due to age?

Well, I worked in that field, that's why. Our chap specialized in peadiatric orthopaedics, as I said. He dealt with infants and pre-schoolers mostly. We had a hip surgeon who did a lot of THRs on 19-20 year olds. A few had bilaterals as well. We also had a special range of prostheses for the CDHs as their hips are malformed and can't usually take the normal type implants.

ok now you have put ideas in my head. how are the implants different. now i know we are using a stryker acetabulum and depuy femoral part. because they have adjustable heads. what was different, i wondered that myself because of the direction of a normal socket and what mine has become.

They were the original Charnley prostheses - remember this was in the 80s! (I am old!) The CDH range was small cups and femoral stems but with slightly different angles in the stem.
