I had an appointment today with my surgeon and he said that the results of my recent MRI were good but after examining me he diagnosed me with tight IT band and will schedule an ITB release in the next week or so. He said that my ITB is stuck from scar tissue and that he is certain that the ITB release will cure my swelling and pain. I asked him about the Tenex procedure and he said that he doesn’t do that procedure but that he will be looking into the Tenex procedure to possibly do that in the future however he thinks the ITB release is what I need. I can’t wait to get the ITB release done and get on with my life.

I had my pre-opt work done today and it looks like I will have my Iliotibial band release (ITB) done on February 9th which is exactly a week from today. While the surgery is considered a small procedure I still had to go through all the same pre-opt test that I went through before my hip replacement and my hip revision surgery. While some surgeons do this surgery arthroscopically my surgery will be a very small open procedure done as an outpatient with a very small opening and only a few self-absorbing stitches. My surgeon is very confident that this procedure will stop most if not all my pain and swelling. Next Thursday can’t get here soon enough.

Boy oh boy, Golfer, I can imagine you just want this left hip journey over with once and for all. It's been a long haul for sure. I'm happy your OS feels this is the answer and the procedure that will finally bring you the relief that's been so elusive. Wishing you all the best!

I had my IT Band release today it took about 30 minutes from start to finish. The surgery was an open surgery not an arthroscopic surgery so I have an incision to heal the surgery went very well and my Doctor said that he thinks that he found my problem and that my pain and swelling should resolve due to this surgery. The surgery was done as an outpatient so I am back home relaxing and icing and taking my meds as prescribed I won’t know if the surgery worked for a few weeks after I heal. My doctor wants me to start PT soon because he doesn’t want the tissue to scar up and cause problems. I don’t know how soon PT starts because I can’t find the time to start PT in my discharge instructions so I will call my doctor’s office and ask. I am able to do full weight bearing and I am using a cane to get around the house today but I have a walker ready if I need it when the soreness kicks in a few days from now. So I am very happy with the surgery so far I will keep the forum informed how it all works out as I heal

@golfer67 happy to hear all went well with your surgery and your resting comfortably at home. Also happy that you're taking your meds as prescribed, relaxing and icing. Listen to your body. Fingers crossed this is the fix! :fingersx:

This is day three after my ITB release and everything is going as well as I could have hoped so far. My pain is controlled and I am icing for the swelling and the icing does not seem to do much good. If I am not very careful when I sit down I cause a very sharp pain that takes a while to recover from so I sit down like a Hen on her eggs (LOL). My heart rate was up a bit the first two days but that has come back down to normal and I am able to sleep a few hours at a time. Before the release my knee was very tight and would pop when the knee bent but since the release the popping has gone away and I assume that is due to the IT band not being as tight as it was. I am still in the just take it easy phase of recovery so the only exercises I am doing is walking around the inside of the house using my cane for now, I start PT on Thursday 2/16 so that is when I will start doing recovery type exercising. So far it is all good I will just need to wait to see if the ITB release cures my problems.

It has been two weeks since ITB release and bursar removal I am doing okay but it is still very early so I have a lot of swelling and pain from the surgery. I think I am on the way to some relief but it is obviously going to take some time to get over this procedure. I am off all meds and going to PT once a week while doing the stretches and exercises given to me at PT. I will just have to keep at it and give it time and see how it all turns out.

IT has been three weeks since my ITB release surgery and finally I am starting to get better very fast. The swelling is going down and the pain level has gone way down to maybe only a one on a scale of one to ten. It looks like my surgeon found the problem and I am finally going to recover.

@golfer67 sounds like good news! Just don't think recovery is over and start pushing. Continue to take it slow and easy like you have up to now. Really happy that things have started to turn around for you, please keep us updated.
