In 2019 I had a total hip joint replacement it dislocated 4 times after a week, I had a revision which replaced the cup and stem after about 4 moths I started having problems with pain and walking. A GP diagnosed groin strain and physio after a few months I convinced the physio there was a problem she arranged a x ray. This showed everything was OK I was not convinced so got in touch with my surgeon . He identified a halo affect around the stem they checked for infection no infection. Dec 2020 I had another revision just the stem it was loose the new one was cemented in. All went well untill I tripped in the garden horrible pain through the groin and over the hip. More physio pain meds steroid still lots of pain I asked my GP if I could have an Ultrasound. The ultrasound identified a full thickness tear of the Glutues mediuse tendon posteral facet 14mm retraction and lateral facet. Seeing a different surgeon tomorrow do you think all the surgeys cause this, has anyone had this happen did cause they have surgery. As it is retracted I can not see how it can repair on its own I am normally very active walk , ski, kayak garden so has made my life sad.

I'm sorry to read you have had so many problems with your hip replacements. I think it's a good idea to see a different surgeon, preferably one who specialises in fixing problem hips.
Please will you tell us the full dates of all your hip surgeries and which hip it is, so we can make a signature for you? Knowing the exact date will help us to advise you appropriately.

I don't think the hip surgeries are responsible for your gluteus medius repair, although I'll defer that opinion to your new surgeon if he/she disagrees.

Dec 22 2021 revised cup kept, changed liner not so slick, a longer stem and cemented. Diagnoses stem loose.

Hi just got MRI results interesting.
Summary:
No immediate surrounding soft tissue inflammation or collection.
Normal gluteal attachment, with no tendinopathy or tear and no bursal inflammation.
Significant atrophy however is noted including through the obturator moderate internus and piriformis muscles.
Bit confusing as different to the ultrasound which noted tears, bursitus and inflammation.
Will be interesting to see what the surgeon says. I pleased there are no tears hopefully physio will be able to help.

Hi I have seen the surgeon re results
they have had a peer group talk about my case. There is no tear it is believed due to the ultrasound picked up muscle damage from the hip replacement on the MRI it shows every thing is attached 2 of the muscles that show atrophy are the ones they cut during the op. The muscles atrophy in general is due to 3 ops etc and the period of time not using the muscles. You can see on the MRI fatty streaks which is the muscles wasting. They are confident with exersize i will regain function and lose the pain.
When the surgeon showed me the MRI I could see the attachments and atrophy it was very clear.
