morning Glenda. It is 4.45am here, so must be 9 45am there (I think you put the clocks forward this weekend too? I know we are one week behind you either Spring or Fall, forgot to ask my mum the other day.

How are you doing? You haven't posted lately. I do hope you are managing to get some control of that pain. As I sit here in pain waiting for my Percocets to work I can't imagine coping with just Paracetamol, or without the friendship and advice of the people on this forum. We had quite the chat online last night, see threads The Dreaded Diet, Tips to straighten TKR leg, TKR and other posts dated March 9th 8.36pm and before. I could imagine we were all sitting around in someones house drinking tea or coffee. We were "chatting" so fast I hardly had time to check one thread out before another had been posted.

Anyway, I am also thinking of you now as I know you are heading to see your doctor today. Please let us know how you get on.

Take care, Sue

Heck Josephine,

What is the matter with this doctor, has he ever had a knee replacement? I'm beginning to wish it on him, and I'm not a vindictive person. Surely booze is as addictive as Percs in the long run? These sorts of docs should be struck off in my opinion.

Glenda, I am so sorry for you, I would keep calling him until he gives in if I were in your shoes. In fact I would go and knock on his door in the middle of the night until he gives in!! Then kick him in the knee so hard he would have to have a TKR. Sorry if I'm ranting, but this makes me sick, the uncaring b*****ds of what used to be a good proffesion. Sue

I so agree with you, NP. I did read it earlier but I was lost for words so I just took some time out to pray. It's unforgivable! And telling a patient to consume alcohol with any form of meds is irresponsible. I have been thinking where else she could go to get help but unfortunately, in the UK it all starts and ends with the GP - doctor.

My only thought is, Glenda - is it a medical centre with other doctors? Could you see a different doctor? Maybe a woman doctor?

Isn't Mr. Rowles Glenda's surgeon? Is the Nuffield Derby a private hospital? Would her G.P. be allowed to prescribe something stronger over the surgeons advise? I really, don't know how she can be getting through this, I am crying as I think of her!! Sue

Glenda,
I hope you slept even for a little while and I hope you don't have a hangover from the booze. Please be careful mixing any meds and liquor we don't want anything to happen to you.
I wish as everyone here does we could do something for you but know that there are a lot of us out here praying and thinking of you and wishing you strength in this battle.
Cathy

That would be correct.

Glenda, I have not had a drink in years because of the havoc it brought into my life. When I take my pain medicine, I have to take it with care and dilligence because of my addictive personality. The thought of having a drink did cross my mind when I was out of pain medicine, but it quickly deminished because I knew the end results would not be good.
Recently, after discussing my quandry with Josephine and many friends here on this forum, I decided to switch Doctors after my TKR and go to a pain management specialist. This specialist, provided me with two types of pain medicine as well as a future plan for pain management to include an MRI and lower back epidural injections.
Please reconsider having a few drinks as pain releif. I would encourage you to speak again with your Doctor or find a new one who will be sensitive to your pain issue. If this was the old west, and you were a gunfighter, the doctor would give you some whiskey when he took the bullet out of you!! This is 2008, please insist on proper pain medication from your Doctor or find another.
Just knowing that I have Percoset in my cabinet gives me relief mentally. I consider it my insurance plan in case I really get into some discomfort. It does not mean I take them on a regular basis.
We care for our friends here as we all help each other from our experiences. please call your Doctor and ask for proper pain medicine and do not self medicate with alcohol.
God Bless and Gospeed in your recovery!
Chuck

I wish I could share my Perc's with you Glenda...You need to be comfortable for a speedier, LESS pain recovery. The thought of going through the stretching without a Perc makes me CRINGE* Change your G.P. ASAP...

What is "squiffy"??? I think I might like to feel squiffy... I haven't had a drink since before Christmas due to pain meds. I really like a small Bailey's now and then so I miss it. But I cannot imagine a doctor recommending a few drinks... good gravy!!

Squiffy is a bit like the feeling you get when the percs start to cut in!!

How are you doing today Glenda? Sue

"Squiffy" is being DRUNK!!

I always remember a young doctor I worked with. He had an appendicectomy and when he came back, I offered him the usual 18g Venflon to put in the patient's hand and he rejected it, asking for a 14g instead. When I asked him why he just said that it wasn't till he had one put in himself he realisied how painful it was! He never even used a 16g after that, let alone an 18g!

So it gave me a thought - what say we get this guy booked in his TKR!!

(Wick-ED!)

Glenda, where are you? Want to know how you are coping? Hope we hear from you tonight, am thinking of you often. Hugs, Sue

Josephine, I've had that thought about some DRs on other issues. Those are the ones who have lost the level of humanity and need a talking to or if that doesn't work a pink slip. Jen

Thanks for the definition gals. I thought the term you used was "ticked" for drunk. Now I have a new one. Thanks. I work with lots of Irish folks and will be over there in Dublin in June. Like to understand the language!!

Glenda??? You still with us? We worry when we don't hear from you!

Wanted to get this to the newposts again to see if we can get Glenda back. We also seem to have lost Klinger.

We can only hope they aren't posting because they are doing so well they don't need us. Even on my good days I need ya'll.
