Sandie-
Welcome. I found this place a few weeks ago and am thrilled with the info, suggestions and stories I have read. Super GREAT group of people from all over and with varying stories - I am 42 and having my TKR 7/14. Ask lots of questions and you will get lots of comforting answers!

Hi new guys. Hope you have read a lot of the old posts, they will give you a good idea of what to expect. We all recovered differently but it gives you a great idea of what could happen. Good luck to Bill. Keep posting. Sue

Roll out the questions, dw. We're ready when you are!

Re:Sleep and appitite

Am new to this site - but here goes....am now 8 weeks away from double knee replacements. Left leg is great, right one is still problematic - I expected this so I will continue to exersize and ice. I would like some advise in this area: Appitite and sleep, it seems that since the surgery I have had little or no appitite - I have lost about 15 lbs (still 195 6'2"), but should I worry about the appitite? Anyone else experienced this? Sleep has been gained by popping a sleeping pill - without which sleep has not been easy. Thanks for any help.

Hi Ranger-Paul. I am only 9 days post op but I too lost my appetite. The first few days I could not eat anything more than saltines. But the past 3 days have been better. I actually ate most of my chicken sandwich from Burger King yesterday. But then at dinner all I could handle was a small bowl of soup.
As for sleep, for the majority of the time I sleep only two hours before waking up. But thank goodness I fall back asleep, if only for another two hours. Prior to this surgery I took Lunesta to sleep and it worked wonders. When I go to my OS this week, I plan on asking him if I can take it while on the vicodin.
Hope you are able to get some rest real soon.

Hi RangerPaul, I also lost my apetite for several weekx, I looked great everyone thought so. I think it is the strong pain meds. When I started to wean myself off them (Percocets) I started eating more and gained weight (boo-hoo). As I continue the struggle with the withdrawal symptons I eat chocolate, it seems to help a bit. Unfortunately I am gaing more and more weight. Can't fight the food as well as the Percs at the moment, so when I finally get off the pills I will have to tackle the food again!! It never ends!!

Now to your sleep problem, we all seemed to experience this at about 7 weeks or so for a few weeks. I bought a body pillow to drape my operated leg along (guess you could do this with your right one. I also took a herbal type sleeping pill as my OS said the other kind were addictive. I took Sleep MD and they worked really well for me, and I am not a great taker of any herbal pills usually.

Anyway, hope you continue to post and progress better with your right knee. Good luck.

Dear Carolinagirl and Nursepair - thanks a million for your responses - it really helps to know that what is going on in your on body is not that unusual....make me feel better knowing that. Thank, again.

Paul

Welcome aboard, Bill, Sandie and Paul. This is truly a unique site. If you ever doubt anything come on over to the hippy side. Hope you have some time on your hands. When you start to recuperate you just might find yourself looking forward to checking out the website and friends real frequently.

(just kidding about the hippy side; the kneesies do a pretty good job) at least they know how to spell kneesies.
