This may be a silly question but does anyone have any suggestions how one can safely get down on the floor and back up? I haven't tried since surgery and didn't remember to ask PT before I was discharged. I want to do my 'laying down' exercises on the floor rather than my bed, which I think may be too soft and starting to give me back problems after I do my clamshells and bridges. :pzld:

I havent but I would be close to something I could hold onto just incase. Please be careful............

Hi Kathy,and welcome
Its very easy to get to floor, trip on something!

Ok sorry about that, lol, the best way I found was to sit on couch and lower yourself mostly with your arms. This way you can go down slowly and lower yourself at your own comfort level. Also when getting back up slide up to couch and raise with arms and push with good leg. If you need place a pillow on floor by couch to raise yourself higher, both for lowering and rising. Very good luck!

Are your 90 degree restrictions lifted? (At nearly 4 months out, I imagine they would be, but some docs are SO conservative!)

If so, "safety" shouldn't be an issue and you can get on the floor & back up any way that feels comfortable to you. (Nobody said anything about it being pretty, mind you--just comfortable! :D)

Even without any restrictions in the early weeks, I found it easier to bend by putting my operated leg straight out behind me & bending the opposite knee until I lowered myself almost to the floor (imagine doing a very deep curtsy). From that position, you could get into a kneel & lower yourself to sitting on the floor.

I've found going down onto my knees holding on to a coffee table or lounge, slide backwards a little to give yourself more space, and then put your hands down on the grounds as if you are a cat, and then swivel over onto your back, and your ready to go....to get up reverse the whole process...
Of course be careful, and don't try this if you are still under restrictions!!!!....swivelling is not to be advised if you haven't had the all clear from the dr!

Make sure your rump goes WAY up in the air!!! :)

Trip Clunker---yep yep yep he is back. I could not stop laughing.

Have not tried getting on the floor, but if you are there by yourself
please be sure you have a phone in reach.

I think Judles missed the question. Was the question how to block people from playing leap frog? Or what was she thinking?:hehe:

Nope! I got the question! Whenever I'm down on the floor, gotta scooch over and grab something stationary...and rump up! Works for ME!!!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and the laughs:rotfl:. My restrictions are lifted, but I have a tendency to be clutzy and I am alone so thank you.
PR.. I tried it this way last night and it worked! Didn't have the upper body strength to do Clunker's way.

But, I didn't find it comfortable to do the exercises on the floor. Now I sound like Goldilocks.....'this one's too soft....this one's too hard".:sigh:

And pretty soon Kathy, you will find the one that is just right!!:thmb:

Kathy,
Can you get some high density foam.....I have a mat on the floor which takes away the "hard floor" feeling, but equally is firm enough to do the exercises....
